Peafowl for 2013

Woe! I need to upgrade here. Those are nice beds. No wonder my peahen wouldn't lie in the cheap bed,(apparently those are for chickens)!
The Orvis Co., has Dog Bed photo contests for their catalog. They've had pictures of pigs, goats, kangaroos but never a peahen. I think we need to get your girls in the catalog! Course, has to be an Orvis dog bed- but hey why not?

Well I got a nice shock when I woke up this morning to check the temps on the incubator. I had unplugged the cord that plugs into the top of the incubator!!!!!!!!!!!!! :he The temp had dropped down to 60. I am so upset. I plugged it back in. We'll see what happens. When I was incubating goose eggs, I remember falling asleep and leaving the eggs out in a room with 65 degree temps for 7 hours but the eggs still hatched. I hope I get the same results for the pea and guinea eggs. :/

Keep the faith!

I have a question for all of you that sell your peachicks. I have now sold my first 11 that hatched. They ranged in age from a few days old to two weeks old. I had a lady that picked 5 out of the nine I had at the time, and it was her choice to go ahead and pick the 2 day old I. Blue that I had the feet and legs taped for mild splay leg and a crooked toe. They were all eating and doing well in my brooder and she chose it over the older pieds. 24 hours later she is asking for a refund because it was acting weak last night and this morning she couldn't get it to eat or drink and it died. She had her brooder up close to 100 degrees ad they were on thin coating of shaving. I had them in my brooder with paper towels over the wire and a Brinsea brooder. She told me she had raised peafowl before and knew what she was doing. Now wants a refund or another chick. What should I do????

WOW!! Poor baby pea. My motto is that once it leaves my place, I am not responsible for any problems because I know that all of my animals are healthy with no problems. Because you don't know what conditions your pea went to, you cannot be held responsible for what happened at her place. What if the pea overheated because she had the brooder too hot? How can that be your fault? We will never know what happened to the pea. So why should you have to pay for that? I would not refund her anything nor would I give her another chick but that's just me. Others may disagree with my comment but I'm just saying what I would do.

In the future, you may want to think about having your customers sign something indicating that once the bird leaves your place, there are no refunds. However some people may give a 24 hour refund. I would NOT give a 24 hour refund either. What if a bird drowns in 24 hours at the buyer's place? How can that be your fault and how can you be responsible for replacing a bird that the buyer killed. :/ (I'm just saying.)

Kuntrygirl, thanks for the reply! That is exactly what I was thinking. I know there is never a refund from feed stores or hatcheries on live on delivery guarantee when mailed. My main deal is that she picked that one due to color even though it was the smallest of my chicks, and could see that the others that were the same age were larger and running around the brooder. Her choice not mine! It's a lot harder to hand my babies over to people than I thought it would be, but she acted like she knew what she was doing. I have checked on all the others and they are all doing great. I will write up some form of bill of sale that says no refunds or guarantee, that's a good idea. I have about 10 days before my next hatch is due. Thanks, :)

This is exactly why I am always soooooooooo afraid to sell my babies to other people. For this same reason. I hope that she doesn't make a big stink out of this. :/

Please keep us posted if she gives you "drama" behind this. Don't back down. Stand your ground with this one. :thumbsup
