She needs veterinary care - the shaking and so forth is possibly due to infection and pain.
Please try to think creatively - perhaps you can find a waterfowl rehabilitator, get a vet to do the work as charity, contact an animal shelter for help finding a contact. She needs help now, as you...
Welcome to the Duck Forum, @TeresaLovie . . . I can see how some comments can stir a response, and for new folks, it's not always clear how old a post is.
In any case - sounds like you have some critters you care about! Great!
I try to remember to respect the grieving process. It is not the culture I was raised in, but it seems to have some value in my life. 'nother story.
Anyway, yes, I would add water to his feed, make it a nice, sloppy slurry. And just tell him how you feel. You may already be doing that.
You gave her so much love, and care. That was a wonderful blessing. And you helped her passage be less painful than it otherwise might have been.
Donnie needs your help now.
You have every right to be angry. It is a terrible and sad thing to happen.
You might also let the vet know how quickly the pet duck popularity is growing. I know vets who don't treat "farm animals," but they specialize in birds. And ducks are birds.
Oh, no. You've done what you can with what you have. Encourage the vet to think outside the box a bit (might he recognize it as a cyst that could be drained, for example), and then do what you both feel is best. Might want to give Donnie a little time with Minnie if you can, before you take...
If you cannot find preparation H, do try the sugar solution, or honey. Something to get the swelling down. Cool compress, an epsom salts compress.
Keep it moist, try to reduce the swelling.
Signing off now.
I would. Do you have any vet-wrap or the human equivalent? And make sure you have plenty of triple antibiotic ointment, not the pain-relief kind.
I might also consider an Epsom salts compress before the preparation H.
When should I check back in here? I can set my alarm.
She may not be able to go, now, because of the problem.
This is really something a vet needs to deal with. And I know, sometimes that just isn't an option. But if this is a prolapse, the tissue needs to go back inside some time, or that's it.
Using Prep H, which is supposed to reduce...
I would clean it with mild soapy water, put preparation H on it, wrap it with no-stick gauze and then wrap the tail to try to hold the bandage on. Put her in a small but comfy box or crate with clean bedding in a safe place, no lights, and check on her in the morning.
Has she laid eggs before? If so, there is an exit for the egg. But if the tissue is swollen and misplaced, it could be tricky to find it.
I am going to guess you'll find it, help her work the egg out, then you can help her by getting the prolapse back inside her.
The opening may be near...
Do you have any petroleum jelly (vaseline)?
I would try lubricating from the end of the tube up, see if you can get it to release what may be the egg there.
If I were there I would try for you, but I can't.
Take a look at this link. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6383
Remember that a tub of warm water is a big help. Also, do you have anything like KY Jelly or "personal lubricant" as it's called? Can you send someone out for some?
My feeling - not a vet, here - is I...
This may be beyond help. I hate to say that, and I wish someone with more experience with this would chime in here, since I don't want you to have to euthanize her just on my feelings based on your descriptions. It's very helpful, the forum, but not perfect.
