Beautiful Wheatens! I think I've PMed you already, but I'll be contacting you next spring for eggs for sure!
Are you getting eggs yet, how's the color?
Who has Wheaten Marans (or BW Marans) hatching eggs or chicks? Or do you foresee them being available next spring?
I'd love to know more about this variety.

Debbi, here's the link to the Penedesenca thread where I posted pictures of my new babies. They're still young, some about a week and a half others about two and a half weeks. They're a bit flighty at this point but I'm trying to handle them and make them as unafraid of me as possible...

Patty very, very generously gave me tons off eggs that she did let me know may or may not hatch. She wasn't collecting for hatching at the time but I had family who was coming up from SoCal and it just worked out that she could give me some freebies. Needless to say, I was thrilled at...
I'm so not as patient as I should be either. It's going to drive me nutso now until I know for sure whether it's a boy or a girl.
If he is a roo, he'll most likely become a meal. There's a woman I know in San Jose who takes in cockerels from folks who can't keep them, her and her family grow...

I just didn't want to tell him. I was waiting for you to go first!
Sorry Jeremy.
Why though? Are BCM feathered differently as male and female chicks? Is it the feather development that it has so far?
Or ...?
*sigh*
I guess there's always next year!

You're now the second person who's told me it already looks like a little roo! That can't be! I won't be able to keep him, if he is a him. And yes, it was my only Black Copper to hatch so all of my hopes are riding on this one little baby. L0L. What makes you think it's a boy?

I can officially join this thread. Here's my newest baby, a Black Copper that was hatched on the 4th of July.
Eggshell color is a bit darker than what it appears in the photo, the flash washed it out some.
Feathered feet are so cute!
I woke up this morning to a peeping in my incubator! A Marans chick must have hatched a couple of minutes before I woke, it's still wet and wobbly on it's feet. I'm so excited,
I was wondering too whether or not they will breed true to the Wheaten color. I was hoping that I might hatch a Wheaten chick then be able to use her (her, wishful thinking I know!) for a Wheaten Olive Egger project... just a thought.
What are the odds of hatching a Wheaten Marans from a Black Copper Marans bloodline? I put about 2 1/2 dozen BC Marans eggs into the incubator on Sunday, do y'all think a Wheaten chick could pop up unexpectedly? These birds are primarily Bev Davis lines from what I was told.
Sorry if I'm...
I just posted this thread about some Black Copper Marans chicks on craigslist in my area, anybody want to help by taking a look?
Thank you oh mighty Marans fanciers.
