I have AN ABUNDANCE Of apples (and can get more FREE if I want them)
besides the basics;
applesauce
cinnamon apple slices/rings
apple pie filling
apple butter
what can I do w/them??? help!?!?!?!?
there are lots of ppl who say "you dont really need it"...
but before we go assuming recipes are safe; you really need to get the recipe from a tried/true tested place such as
the ball website, the National center for Home food preservation etc..
ok in the last month (Its been a bit since posted)
I've canned:
6 quarts of homemade chicken noodle soup (just an FYI-- it is NOT safe to add noodles/rice/flour/thickeners etc..so my soup is everything BUT the noodles and/or rice..add them when we open it up to cook)..
17 qts of GORGEOUS...
just make sure when you add more things that are non-acidic, you make sure you have ENOUGH acidity in that sauce...
I WONT use a canning recipe NO MATTER HOW GOOD it sounds if it isnt approved; because I will not chance
anyone getting sick..just my rule...but its a good rule lol...
NOW that...
Mulberries!! Tomorrow is Mulberry jam "day"....
we are blessed to have a couple mulberry tree/bushes in our yard...BUT there are about 7 of them in an abandonded field across from my house...
So, we went to pick them and have 1 gallon bucket of mulberries...so tomorrow we are making mulberry...
7 quarts of diced potatoes...
and about 25 lbs of diced and cubed (lg cubes) of blanched to make mashed taters later on...
FOODSAVER'd it... love that thing!
sooooo tired of being on my feet today....
I havent even made a dent in the free potatoes!!! I hvae about 1/2 of them scrubbed and cubed...partially peeled...
so I'm taking an hour for dinner..we are going uptown to the local diner...since i've been on feet all day long...doing jalapenos...
