I find making just plain old tomato sauce gives me lots of options come meal time. It can be turned into tomato soup, added to stews, used over stuffed peppers, turned into spaghetti sauce, etc.
Peaches are dicey even in peach country. We routinely loose our entire crop from late freezes. They are very sensitive to temperature change and will leaf out and bloom with a nice warm day in spring, even if it is a month before last frost date. There's a big peach orchard about an hour from...
That's a good thought. Sand plums are small wild plums that grow on thorny bushes and ripen in July and August along roadsides and in fields. They're also called Chickasaw plums or beach plums.
Yum. I still have filling from last year so didn't make any new this year.
I've been canning more sand plum jelly from my stash in the freezer. Not sure why but the ones I freeze are always more tasty as jelly then when I make it from fresh plums. Hmmm?
I completely agree with you. My husband and I decided we didn't want some one else raising our kids for us as would have happened with them in day care. We had watched my sister take her son to day care. He was asleep when she dropped him off and asleep when she picked him up again. My mother...
Can't say I've ever tried fish and cream over toast ... haven't even heard of it actually. I've also never had salt cod ... Does that make me deprived?
Yeppers ... my husband was a navy man too. He still folds the socks and underwear and arranges them in the drawers just so. Sometimes his laundry detail is a little too much for me. Who knew all the hangers had to face the same way??? He's really not OCD about anything else ... just the laundry...
Lesson number umpteenth thousandth - label jars of jelly while you still know what flavor they are. I have no idea what I'll be drenching my biscuit in tomorrow other than it came from my pantry and is a reddish orange hue. Could be sand plum, peach, grape, currant, or one of the mixed kind...
I never get much of a crop from rare seeds seeds. Three years ago I got one tomato from their plants and it wasn't the variety it was supposed to be. Two years ago I got a decent crop from one variety (out of seven) but again it was not the variety it was supposed to be. I stuck with seed savers...
The pinging is normal as the metal heats up. Not sure about steam out the side. Does it have a steam cock on top? Steam should be coming out of that. I take it you have a dial guage, not weights?
