Don't give up yet... Have you candled the eggs? Do they have an odor? Also is the 29 days starting when she started to lay or is that after she started sitting on the nest?
Bad eggs discard. Be careful though because some may smell bad because they were next to a bad egg and could still be...
These two are beautiful girls. In the background is Basil. Her mom is a khaki and dad a mallard. In the foreground is Vanilla Bean. Her mom was a mallard and dad was a khaki.
This photo was taken off a camera screen. We no longer have Sammy, but he was a beautiful drake. The photo does not do...
Our khaki did hatch her babies. Unfortunately, she was my daughter's showmanship duck for fair and we had to remove her babies in attempt to get her personality back to normal. However, if we would have left them she would have raised them. She was very protective of the nest and her babies...
Our khaki baby
The group our khaki hatched with their Granny laying in the background keeping an eye on things
One of the babies that look like muddy mallards, although the picture did not give the look justice
One of the babies that looks like it went to the salon and asked for mustard...
UPDATE:
Our khaki duck has hatched 8 ducklings so far. She still has some eggs in her nest. We have taken the ducklings each day as they hatched and she did not seem to mind. She is very protective of the eggs though. That is why we cannot tell how many eggs she has to go. I hope the rest...
Yes she will not be here for a week. Besides that we have aggressive males who will not tolerate the babies hanging around.
What I meant by friendly, by no means was not de-ducking them :) our ducks are inside with us until they are fully feathered. They are handled a great deal by children...
We would but we had to tell them in our paper work what breed and gender, well she is the only khaki campbell duck we have. We are stuck using her. I agree she is stressed, but she is not at home when she is worked with which helps a little. We used to handle her all the time, so once a week for...
What do you mean by broken? Have you looked at the eggs to see if they are fertilized?
My biggest concern is that she is not taking care of them properly, because we know at least two died. They were awful smelling and she still was sitting on them.
She was the nicest duck I have ever seen...
Oh no, did you candle them to see if there was growth before the hatch date? If so, did the eggs just quit? Gosh, I hope she doesn't have that turn out. Sorry to hear that :( thanks for the response.
Okay thanks. I do have a question though. I am new to this site and I tried to start two threads now and both times I get referred to another's thread. Is this how the site works? Do I always go to someone else's and post my stuff there? Thanks :)
Do people typically not have the khaki campbell as a breeding duck? Nobody has responded and I really have not read about them on here. Darn, I was hoping someone would have the experience with the duck sitting. When I research it, basically everything does not elaborate, just says they are not...
I was wondering if anyone has had a khaki duck be successful in hatching her own eggs?
We have a newly 1yr old khaki duck sitting on her nest for maybe a half a month now. Yesterday, I took a flashlight to the eggs and found two bad smelling eggs. There were also some that may also be stinking...
