I'll see what I can do about bringing some up....having a terrible time getting them to lay/hatch/be fertile/what else could go wrong. haha :D I put your name on my list of people to call though!
They are hard to find for sure, they are mostly privately bred--the ones I tried from a hatchery laid really light eggs and had very little copper :(
Australorps do have really beautiful black eyes :D and I agree on the calm, docile nature.
FBCM--French Black Copper Marans. I am not a fan of the Aussies as much because of the plain tan egg, but LOVE the Marans for the chocolate colored eggs. (eggs on far left in picture)
The Marans have a nice copper necklace and part of the head, so they still are kinda cool looking---I raise...
Put a drop of food coloring in their vent. Not red. Blue or purple works best....the egg will have the marks on it. I have read Lipstick works but that is just twisted haha :D
Yes that's what you would have! There are quite a few that like them I think, I have bought them from DMRippy here on BYC, she had an ad running for a long time and lots of people bought shipped SBEL hatching eggs from her, also there are lots on the UT thread that like these, but the lady that...
SBEL stands for Super Blue Egg Layer. An Ameraucana Rooster over a leghorn hen produces these chicks, they lay blue eggs but much more productive than an Ameraucana. The plumage is typically white with blue or black flecks, and they may or may not have the poofy cheeks. Also may be called...
fipronil comes in drops at the pet store, I've bought some at Walmart also, just look for flea and tick in the dog section and look for the active ingredient. There are others also, but I have read Fipronil is the safest (egg-wise) for laying hens.
You can also mix the poultry protector in a...
You can also use Fipronil, ( Flea and tick for dogs), one drop on the back of neck and one drop below the vent. Keeps the bugs away for months. It is easy to apply when you have a big flock, no dusting and getting the yucky powder all over the place. The eggs die as they hatch, or get the...
These are bantam sized, in a standard stryofoam bator turner I would just put some tissue around the base to help them turn gently instead of jolting. OR you can hand turn them and fit a TON in an incubator lol
I live in Logan, am driving to Blackfoot this week on 5/31...I have purebred Showgirl/Silkie/ eggs that will either be frizzled, smooth, or silkied, they are $30/dozen plus, I usually get closer to two dozen in each batch they are laying like crazy right now.
When I have hatched them, the single comb do pop up once in awhile but I have never kept the chicks because I feared they would not lay a blue egg without the pea comb. So I am not sure if it ever happens that they could still lay blue...
