Well, at 9 he is already pretty well aged, isn't he? His back feet look weird, too. I would have a vet take a look at him if you are concerned or have other goats.....he could have something like CAE.

Oh, well, I see I came in in the middle of the discussion. I agree with Diamond H.. :o) I sent in a fecal for my goat, because of his big belly, and it came back with a 0 wormload. Saved me the cost of worming.

You ought to do a fecal before you worm him, and make sure that he actually needs it. You can get fecals done here for $5: http://www.midamericaagresearch.net Why are you giving him B12?

That would depend on where you get your goat, how big an area you are fencing, and what fencing you use. If there is a Tractor Supply in your area, go there and look at all the choices in fencing. And if you look on Craigslist you will most likely see goats for sale.

Oh...people eat goats where I live, too. But I won't be one of them Mine are for milk, vegetation control and entertainment. They are just too personable for stew.

There is no way I could eat my goats. I'm sure they will die of old age.

Just IMO, I would remove the mulch. I don't see how you could possibly keep the area clean with the mulch there....there would be imbedded goat poop everywhere. I doubt that it would be a health hazard as long as they have other things to chew....my goats completely ignore the pine pellet...

Any time an animal is not eating I think it's time to call a vet. Animals can go downhill very quickly when they don't eat.

I have visions of a goat playground I was looking for a wooden spool for them, but I couldn't find one in my area. So I planned to build a platform on top of the tire for them to stand on (saw it on Facebook) but she seems to enjoy just pushing the tire around with her head and balancing on...

    Lets talk about goats!

I see a construction project in my future. I've been giving them toys to try to keep their little minds busy...dog toys that I move around so they have to hunt for them, and a tire that the little girl likes to push around the corral. I'll have to see what else I can come up with.

    Lets talk about goats!

Many years ago we had some sheep. Sheep are pushy, but not particularly bright. Goats are a little TOO bright I have shade cloth stretched across part of their corral, and they have a dog house underneath so they can stay dry in the rain. I came home last week to find that they had...

I do enjoy them....they are like bad toddlers, always trying to get into trouble and spot in the middle of anything I try to do. I bet you have better water and soil than we do....everything in the west is alkaline.

    Lets talk about goats!

Well, I have never been a fan of juvenile spay in dogs because they miss out on so many of the hormones, and I may decide to breed later on, so I think I will wait for a bit. I know diet is a big factor in urinary stones in dogs, but it also runs in breeds, and my understanding is that the...

    Lets talk about goats!

Thank you, that was actually my question I will look into sending a fecal in. He was obviously not well taken care of wherever he came from originally, which is why I was concerned. The little girl had clearly received better care. They are only about six months old....is breeding an...

    Lets talk about goats!

Okay, thanks. I'll file that away for when my little girl is old enough to start producing. Do you agree that the big pot belly on my boy is not a problem? I am used to horses, and a big belly is an indication of poor nutrition or worms in horses.

    Lets talk about goats!

Yeah...I liked it better when I looked out and saw stars rather than street lights, but at least there is a green belt between my area and the houses, and I have plenty of trees to block the view. And to provide snacks for the goats I'm going to ruminate on all the information I have gotten...

    Lets talk about goats!

Okay. Maybe I can return the Chaffhaye. I would like to avoid GMO alfalfa and the chemicals associated with it. That's why I went that direction. I bought alfalfa cubes for my goats, but they could not chew them, so I had to break them up and soak them for an hour or so before I fed them...

    Lets talk about goats!

California. My property used to back up to a 100 acres of farmland....mostly oats or wheat, and it had been farmed for the last 100 years. It's all houses now. My little area is still country, but there are people all around. I really wanted to head to northern Nevada where there are fewer...
