    Lets talk about goats!

Mine like tree branches, pumpkins, and bananas for a healthy snack, and bread, crackers, and tortilla chip for occasional snacks.

    Lets talk about goats!

Here's my two cents, I keep mostly wethers now, I have 13 right now. They get a good grass hay mix, 2nd or 3rd cutting is best because it's softer and there's more grass blade and less stems, they won't eat the stems unless they are starving so expect waste. Never have I fed Alfalfa to my goats...

I wouldn't give him anything extra, it isn't worth causing digestive trouble as you mentioned, best only to feed what the owner gave you or told you they feed. And they do stink pretty bad, but I do enjoy their snorts, spits, and vocalizations.

I think tennis balls are to keep the sharp tips from being dangerous, but perhaps it could help, couldn't hurt, but I've never tried it, I have kept both together for many years, the ones with horns are always boss, just make sure to provide enough eating places for all and be prepared to see...

    Lets talk about goats!

Yes, but it's doesn't happen often, considering how often goats butt each other, I did have one get a broken jaw, but that was once over many years of goat keeping. It sounds like you have two with horns and one without, that can be trouble sometimes as the one without can get bullied. We try to...

    Lets talk about goats!

Unfortunately what you are seeing is quite normal, especially in pygmies, they butt each other a lot, head on is usually mutual, to the side or back is a dominant goat doing what it does to a subordinate.

Sounds more like pneumonia, treating with penicillin is the usual coarse of action, once a day in the muscle until symptoms disappear and than three days after. I personally will double the dose which is usually 1ml for 100#.

    Lets talk about goats!

B12 can help them recover from a bad worm load. I would just follow the dosage on the bottle plus a bit. We don't fecal, not everyone has access to vets that know goats, we go by pale gums and eyelids, and looking scruffy, or a cough for lung worms.

Plus goats could knock down the heat lamp which could start a fire. We can get down into the -30- to -40 some winter nights, we just feed them inside and give them extra hay.

    Lets talk about goats!

Goats don't need any heat unless they are newborn in the middle of January. Please don't put heat on them, they are designed to grow a nice winter coat and heating them will mess this up. Feed them plenty of grass hay in the winter as the digestion of the hay will generate internal heat. Provide...

    Lets talk about goats!

Mine always used to escape in the fall, their grazing get low so they go looking for something better, we now have three foot tall woven with an electric strand along the inside to keep them from rubbing and climbing. We also start feeding them some hay, they are less inclined to go wandering. I...

In the past we have used old wire spools with ramps and boards in between, also rock piles, they like to climb and it helps to keep their hooves in good shape.

So your adventures of keeping goats confined has begun, good luck trying to outsmart them, it can turn into a challenge, they are so inventive and clever, I can see your boy now, enjoying the view. Here's some of mine enjoying their goat tower, which needs repairs periodically because they eat...
