Lets talk about goats!

Good morning,

a couple days ago I noticed Emily had a runny nose. no temp, and was clear. Today I noticed it is no longer clear so I wiped her nose and took it to the vet. I have antibiotics for her Excenel RTU . Does anyone have any idea how long this will affect her milk? Also is it safe to give the milk to laying chickens?

thank you,

Hi there!
I have 3 Nigerian Dwarf whethers.
We built a really nice little house for them so they can be safe at night. It's getting a little chilly at night so I put a 250 heat lamp in their house. But I went to check on them before I went to bed and both nights that the light was on, they were up walking around.
Are goats sensitive to light?
How do you keep your goats warm?
Thank you!

Goats don't need any heat unless they are newborn in the middle of January. Please don't put heat on them, they are designed to grow a nice winter coat and heating them will mess this up. Feed them plenty of grass hay in the winter as the digestion of the hay will generate internal heat. Provide a shed out of the winds, access to sunshine, hay, and good bedding, and they will be fine.

Plus goats could knock down the heat lamp which could start a fire. We can get down into the -30- to -40 some winter nights, we just feed them inside and give them extra hay.

Don't worry I have 3 Nigeran dwarfs (2 does 1 wether) and a Pygmy buck they did perfectly fine last winter the Nigerians just turned 1 in July, all I did Is made sure I had the house packed with hay, but I might have to put a light this winter but I might not depends on the weather, my two does are due in November, but if you do think they need extra warmth for any reason try a goat sweater all u do I get an old sweater and cut the arms off some and tada a goat sweater, most people do this for kids born late in the year.

My two Nigerian does who turned 1 in July have already been breed by my little Pygmy buck! If I'm correct and counted right they should be due in 2 months around early November!! The hard part is the wait, I'm expecting twins from lily, and a single from wild child. Lily was looking big as a house the other day, while wild child was on the just chubby side.
