After doing a ton of reading on egg cartons vs laying on the floor, I opted for the egg carton.
I liked it. Lots more room for the chicks to move around. No significant "trash" to navigate, from already hatched eggs.
Eggs don't get knocked around.
I noticed the chicks had to work a bit more to...
Wow, that's crazy. I hope not to have the same problem. It was early... tho the first chick hatched was early and is doing fine. 2 hatched on day 19, the rest on day 20. I was totally amazed that they were all done within 24 hours. I figured this would drag out for days!
I still have some...
Here are my little cuties! 24 out of 26 hatched. 2 wound up quitters. Almost all my clears and quitters were my Brahma eggs. They tend to be kinda porous. I assume that was the issue. At least I got 4 of them! I'm afraid the little guy with the leg issue may not make it. I have done the bandaid...
Thank ya'll! So the babies sleep a lot, run around a lot, peck a lot, walk all over each other a lot and sleep a lot again? Lol! If that's the case, mine are acting normal! One of my final 3 eggs is having a time of it with that membrane. Tough stuff that is! I'm surprised the Brahma chick...
Update! OMG what a day! First hatch was at 2:30 am... and it's just been amazing to watch all day. Out of the 26 I put in lockdown...22 have hatched already, the one I thought might be a quitter, was. Looked like somewhere between 10 and 14 days. The egg that had the air cell on the side...
So out of 26 eggs-18 pips so far and 2 hatched! One at 2:10 am, the other at 4:30. Wow, when they start to zip, they mean business! Peep 1 is still sitting in it's egg, but it's starting to look like it's neighbor has encouraged it to start trying to move a bit. Funny the two that have...
Lol @ "you're doing great". Ya made me laugh with that one. I just looked in on peep 1 and another one who had only pipped about 3 hours ago, has just about zipped all the way around the egg! I could not believe how fast it went! It's not out yet, but that egg is rockin. Peep 1 is just laying...
Thanks for your response! Of course, I will assist, if necessary... I have read that article several times now and will likely be reading it again before this night is over! The air cells look good to my untrained eye. The chick that did the 10 day line pip has blown a hole in the egg, below...
Wow, what a weekend some of ya'll have had! Been catching up on my reading here... Fluffy chicks, leg braces, gas chambers and the assist! (wtg btw!)
I've followed along as everyone before me here worried thru their hatch and now, it's my turn to fret. Eggs went into lockdown on Saturday.
At...
The first 24 hours is a day! Mine started at 7:45 AM, so my days are 7:30 am to 7:30 am. Good luck and be sure to post pics!!
Mine go into lockdown on Saturday. I'm just excited. It's finally getting closer! This is my first hatch. By Tuesday, I'll be worried like everyone else around here...
Happy Labor Day! Fun catching up on this thread... SOOOO glad I'm not alone! Ya'll hatched some awesome cute babies!
I did my day 10 candling on Friday night... the 3 suspected clear were still clear. The other 26 have wiggly babies in there. It was quite easy to see them this time! The air...
Oh awesome! Glad I found this thread! I'm a newbie here and a newbie at hatching chicks. I set my first eggs last week. They will be due Sept. 10th. Needless to say, I am excited. I set 31 eggs. Did the day 7 candle and had 2 bad eggs, 2 possible clear and the rest all had veins and wiggly...
