She was refusing to eat or drink at all and started staring up and gasping. Her chirp sounded distressed, so I helped end her pain.

well seems none of my seabrites are gonna make it

there were 2 that I have no hope in but still wasn't sure enough to toss! 6 cream legbars , frizzle silkies and my own guineas are in the hatching bator..
down to 1 turkey out of 5 and 1 peafowl out of 8....none of the others were viable GRRR!!

Were they shipped? I have my first turky eggs, due on the 20th. I can't wait to see them.

So far 4 silkies. 1 blue and 3 splash. 2 buff eggs left, 1 pipped.



Easter Eggers from 7 pink and 5 blue eggs.



8 Marans and 7 Legbars and it looks like all Legbars are female.

Wow!! Look at all those cuties!!! I'm so dying to set some more eggs!!! But my bf refuses, at this time, to make me another coop! I've decided my long term plan is 3 coops with runs. I want to breed Speckled Sussex, Buff Orphington, and Bantam Chocolate Orphington. I told him he has to build me 2 more coops with runs and I will only open 1 for free range each day. So each breed will be allowed to free range every 3 days. He's not totally convinced, but I have faith in my powers of persuasion. Lol

Well I'm on day 3 out according to the Brinsea and when I got home from work one was rattling around. Heidisgran says hers hatch early when shipped and mine came from hot and humid Alabama to hot and humid eastern NC which is probably similar to AL and TX.. So i filled the well, turned off the auto-turn, pulled out the turner plate and put down a paper towel. I also set the three eggs that looked possible in egg carton cups and culled the two that were quitters. So we'll see what "Buff 4" will do. When do you normally see them rattling? Thats not something i've seen mentioned on the thread. Thanks, everyone for all your help!

Update! OMG what a day! First hatch was at 2:30 am... and it's just been amazing to watch all day. Out of the 26 I put in lockdown...22 have hatched already, the one I thought might be a quitter, was. Looked like somewhere between 10 and 14 days. The egg that had the air cell on the side, finally pipped late this afternoon... not even close to the air cell... in minutes it split that egg in two and was out with no help from me at all! There are 3 left, two are pipped and starting to zip, the 3rd has no pip yet, but I did sneak a Brahma egg in 12 hours after I started the rest. So maybe! I couldn't be happier with the results of my first hatch in my home made incubator.

I did end up assisting 2. They had good sized holes for many hours and due to the fact that I run 2 fans, they got sticky stuck and I could see they could not move. Both appear to be just fine now! I did shut off the fan that was blowing across the eggs and upped the humidity even more and had no more trouble at all. Thanks to so many awesome people here who are kind enough to share their experience. You all got me to today and thru today! Whatever success I had was all due to this wonderful group of people.

The only problem chick I have seen so far is there's one that tends to get it's feet up over the wings when it tries to get up. So far it has not been able to stand at all. Is this something that may resolve itself as it gets stronger? Is there anything I can do to help it? Or am I gonna have to.... you know....?

maybe a day or so before they pip...they are turning into place...did you candle them to see if they have internally pipped? I have 5 guineas that have internally pipped that are from my own flock...they were only stored 2, very warm, days before being set....they aren't due until Friday...1 is externally pipped 4 internal....so if you give them the max time frame your talking 2 days early....you let me know when you get a pip....my chicken eggs are due Thursday I didn't see any internal pips on those but some were very active stretching into the air cell I'll let you know!!

how much fun you've had! I'm so happy for you! I know how great it feels and how much you love those sweet little fluffs
