Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

Yeah - it's a roo. He's getting long shinier feathers on his neck and he crows every day - still doesn't act like one though! Although i did see him circling another roo with his hackles out today, that was a first. Good luck - hope yours is a pullet :)

Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

Thank you - that's exactly what I need to do. I'm currently researching to make sure the ones I keep show the best type I have for each breed. I have to admit though, most came from a marans assortment of eggs so I only have one or two of each type - but some had flaws that I could easily...

Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

Thank you! It's not easy - those young roos have so much personality and it doesn't help that they're beautiful! I refuse to keep ones that are mean to us or mean/rough with the hens - and they have to live peacefully together. So far the silkie seems to be no threat to anyone and the other...

Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

Yeah, I'm sure we'll keep him as long as he stays nice to both hens and humans. We already have more roosters than I know what to do with. We're letting them grow out until we know which ones to keep - all different breeds - RIR, various marans, faverolles, Ee's... We've removed 6 this summer...

Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

Okay so it's a boy. I knew it was hatchery stock and not good for show or breeding. Just a pet. Thanks everyone for your input!

Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

He/she only has 4 toes. When it was only a couple days old it had a very tiny 5th toe bump on one foot but it was constricted at the base as though it was barely attached. Within a few days it fell off. I bought it at the feed store knowing it wasn't going to be show quality. We had just...

Silkie ~20 wks old - male or female?

Calypso or Cal? We only have one silkie in our flock so I have nothing to compare except looking at photos online. Ours acts very henlike - pecking around all day, steals food from others and runs, and never stands alert with the roosters. The tail is low and level with its body, not upright...
