I'm not 100% positive, but I think it's probably safe to use if dosed correctly. Some wormers, like moxidectin, don't have much of a safety margin. I'll see what my vet drug books say.

Disclaimer: Not an expert, just a backyard flock owner with books, lol.
The frozen hen is one I still have to do a necropsy on. If you're interested, I started this thread with the intention of doing one on her, but caca pasa, lol. Warning, contains very graphic pictures...
You all might think I'm crazy (or maybe not, lol), but you should see the way I inspect poop! Poop and weight of bird are two major ways I go about determining the overall health of mine.

My roommate is the smart one, lol, and he's the one that bought the scope with the intention of being able to do our own fecals and gram stains, so I sure hope it can see more than just worms, lol.

It's still in it's box, but I think it's an Amscope B340.

So far I've only ever seen live roundworms in a couple of my chickens and cecal worm in one necropsy I did, but that's it.

Lol, I am not doing fecals yet, but I do have a scope and float materials and am planning on learning! I was asking because as much as I want to trust my vet, when I've read something that implies capillaries are hard to test for and she comes back in a few minutes and say "no worms", I wonder...
I think getting fecals done is a great idea, but I read somewhere that the fecal float test for the capillary worm is not easy to do. Do any of you know much about fecals and the different methods? One thing I read said that it required several hours "in the liquid", another said it required a...
@TwoCrows , I'm not trying to pick a fight, lol, just sharing info I have found. f I have read it correctly, which I might not have, this study says that Safeguard *does* kill tapes.

I guess I should have said that I only use Ivermectin for mites as a study shows that it's not an effective poultry wormer even when used in much higher doses than the recommended amount.

No PhD here, lol, but I can tell you that I tried using DE and it didn't work for me, so now I use fenbendazole, praziquantil and ivermectin as suggested by vets, published studies and books like Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, Clinical Avian Medicine and Veterinary Parasitology Reference...
