Just an FYI. Our local co-op ordered buff ducks from Ideal Hatchery. I picked up 5 of them to keep my lone buff duck company. The 5 buff ducks I brought home turned out to be 4 pekins and one fawn runner/pekin cross, I don't even know how they managed that last one with the weight difference...
So, there were these 5 lonely scared little ducklings who had been at the co-op since Wednesday. They were Buff Orpingtons, which is what I wanted to go with my lonely female...and now they're in a tub in my living room. Still have 4 guineas coming in two weeks....
Ducks....I had them in with my chicks last year. Threatened the DH that if we were having them again this year, it would have to be later in spring when the weather is warm so they can go straight outside. So here we are. I have ducks coming in two weeks. Inside. They get their own tub this...
YAY for you!! I'm getting ducks and guineas in two weeks! Got the chicks! Gonna have three tubs in my living room. LOL ....and I swore it would not happen this year.
I do - but they're all red
I'll turn the heat lamp off, it's 78 outside, so I don't think they'll freeze. After having to break the ice to water the chickens this morning I feel like I'm melting. So anyway, then I can get some pictures where you can actually see. I'll have to post them later...
Do breeder orders count?
I got my 4 black copper marans!!! YAY! Although one looks like it might be a dark blue and one a solid black. I did get to see the parents. Nice birds, so the chicks will look nice too!
Keep them fenced/caged within view of your existing hens for a week or so. They'll get most of their pecking order out of the way.
I'm supposed to pick up 3 random chicks at the co-op on the 12th, 3 black copper marans sometime around the 11th, and 4 guineas on the 15th. I guess I did that...
It passes. Just keep reminding yourself. What I ended up doing - and still had to clean a lot though not as much as before - was get a rubber bowl, about 15", bend some welded wire over/around the top of it and put their waterer on top of that. I filled in about 2" of litter on the floor so the...
Oh, I did the same thing with ducks. Got two, went back two days later and there were only 2 left, they looked lonely. So 4 ducks with the 4 chicks in the tub in the living room. OH MY! Cleaned that thing out almost every day and at least every other. Not doing that again. The ducks will have to...
I get my Cream Legbars this summer! ....long wait....
My first order came from My Pet Chicken. I ordered 3 extras and all of them lived. They all thrived except the 2 culled roosters and one adventurous hen who met with an unfortunate accident. They've said that if I want to order...
We built our chicken coop with ample room for 11 if they have to be closed in all day. Fortunately they don't - they have space underneath and an attached pen with access 18/7 and that's only if I've seen loose dogs in the area, otherwise they're all over the place. So with broody hens and...
