My nest boxes are high as well, but my roost is higher. If we ever hatch chicks I'll have to modify the nests. Don't know what you're working with, but could you make your roost perpendicular to the nests maybe? Perhaps resting on the top of the box or something? Or make a few small roosts...

Mine like to roost on the highest spot. If my nests were higher, my girls would roost in the nests (pooping all night in them). If you have the ability to switch it around, I would.
