your system (from what I have gleaned on this thread) seems to be better than the cheapest Styrofoam incubator. Bob Blosl recommended that I buy a 1588, that one might beat your natural system (talk with others, I am ignorant). Ozexpat has a lot of experience, send him a pm if you are going to...

I don't candle at all but I do a sniff test on day 18 to see if I smell anything rotten. I put the eggs on a level surface on day 18 let them roll and put the light side up for the "lockdown". I don't open eggs that don't hatch. I increased my temperature half a degree F to try and get mine to...

for me the problem of shipped eggs versus purchasing live birds (chicks or trio) resulted in a solution that I was not expecting, "Contentment". The egg laid on my farm is "free", the eggs purchased and shipped is costly, so I can have a 35% hatch rate on my free eggs and still be very very happy.

I took a course in college (45+ years ago) called "economic decision making". If you take the problem of eggs vs trio and ran a cost to 100 hatched chicks in your barn.......I would like to know the answer, I read about a lot of failures on the incubator threads, you have tons of broody...

interesting question............. Might be that they were slower to develop and the cockerels reminded me of "Baby Huey", now at ten months they are becoming aggressive enough.

I purchased an incubator that I can grow into, then I discovered that trying to have more than one hatch date in the incubator was not compatible with low humidity in the first 18 days and high humidity in the last 7 days. so.....I bought a incubator to hatch in, then I found this thread.

I had a very late hatch (first pip day 21 plus 12 hours) and ask that question, answer was slightly warmer than 99.5 for first 18 days slightly less for rest of the hatch, I am now trying to maintain 100*F and 99*F. Four thermometers, four different temperatures, hatch rate on the last batch was...

I am at the end of day 22 with this hatch. 33 eggs 15 chicks alive, I never candled, if Bee's 16 hatch........her hatch numbers/rate will be better than my $700 incubator. I have four thermometers, none agree. The "best" thermometer is still only suppose to be accurate to plus or minus 1.8*F at...
