Yeah, a net is not an option unless I put them in pens. But that is not something i am able to do at this point in time. I have them in the coops until I get something figured out.

So, figured out to day that it was NOT a rat.
I was leaving my house and happened to look at my duck pen and there was a HUGE red tailed hawk. Killed another duck and was eating it.
Go figure. Something I'm not supposed to kill and I have no idea how to get rid of it. I free range and pen...
So maybe not a rat then. My birds are all healthy and were in tip top shape when I let them out of their coop that day.
Maybe a havaheart trap would be a good idea incase it is something other than a rat?
I didn't take pictures (now wish i had) but the teeth marks against the breast indicated a large rodent. Which is also why I don't think it was a bird of prey.

I found a welsh hen dead today. The body was near the corner of my coop, outside in the snow.
ALL the meat was eaten from her neck and her breasts. The feathers all plucked in those areas, but not eaten.
