    welcome to the site, i live in Richmond RI and have 26 hens 2 roosters and 69 baby chicks from 3 days old to 6 weeks that i hatched myself in my Genesis 1588, i love to watch the chickens free range and incubating, it is surprising to see what hatches but i need to downsize soon.

    I hatched 27 EE and BA chicks from 32 fertile eggs 3 weeks ago and have another batch of EE and BA eggs in my Hovabator 1588 with some LB eggs, hope this hatch is as good as the last.

    I now have a second broody hen, i will give her a couple days to make sure she is serious and then move her on the other side of the rabbit hutch with 12 more lavender orpington eggs.

    One of my Golden comets went broody two days ago so i moved her to a rabbit hutch with 12 Lavender Orpington eggs last night and this morning she is sitting, hope she will continue for the the 21 days!!!

    Well the first two of the 40 eggs i put in the incubator hatched on day 22, they are both Easter Eggers, hoping to find some Lavender Orphingtens hatched in the morning, had to maintain the temp in the winter in a styrafoam incubator!!

    They are one of the red sexlink crosses that can be sexed at birth by color i have 25 pullets coming in March to replace my 2 year olds, they start to lay at 17 to 20 weeks old and lay 300 to 350 large or extra large brown eggs in their first year, i just collected 9 eggs today.

    I had a light on a timer last year that went on at 4 AM and off at 9 AM and the hens laid all winter, this year i have one RI Red one Buff and 9 Golden Comets so i did not use a light, the Golden Comets are awesome they lay all through the winter, they are the reason i get 7 or 8 eggs.

    Only 10 chicks left from the 29 that hatched, sold 19 so far, they are one week old now, really happy with the hatch, cant wait for the Lavender Orphintons to start laying!!
