Quite a nice pile you have there. I am bringing home compost from my work place (14 employees) since october and my pile isn't even that large haha. I tried the DLM in the coop for winter, so I didn't clean it yet. I suppose that in 2-3 weeks, when I fully empty it, my pile will grow a lot...
Nice job Vehve . I missed the part about the rabbit pen. Are you building it with those blocks to keep more wamth in the pen or just because you had those already?
Yes will post pictures sure :) Next week. I don't want to open the greenhouse after work since I am afraid it will lose it's heat...
Thanks! I was here a few pages ago lol. Discussing pee to add N in the compost ;)
I didn't participate much lately, mine is frozen solid and I am jealous of most of your warmer temps lol
Hi guys :)
Just a quick word how hot composting is nice..
I live in Quebec, is still below freezing these days. Our last frost date in my area is around june 1st.
Normally we can start the garden around mid-april, with resistant varieties.
Well! I have 3 plants surviving outside right now...
Ah, good idea for the water bottles :)
My system isn't closed ;( I used wooden pallet to make the bin. Eventually I will do an (almost) closed, insulated one like was shown in the forum a few times. Mine is frozen solid at this time.
I thought this year I would be able to keep it warm enough...
I thought warm water got cold faster?
Maybe I am wrong.
I know that when it's -30C and you throw boiling water in the air, it instantly becomes snow.
So anytime I put water in my compost in winter, I tried to use tampered water.
Am I thinking wrong? Maybe once the water is inside the pile it...
Yep, yucky eh?
I was pretty relectuant to the idea but where I live, I pay for water. So by using pee in the compost I actually save on water AND it is a ratio of 1:1 nitrogen. It is the highest source of nitrogen that I know of!
Since that time.. yeah... I pee in a bucket.... not really proud...
Same issue as what I run into RichnSteph!
Too much wood in our coops versus the green we can find - at least in winter I think.
I read in a previous post about a 3 compartment compost bin. Here is mine. It was brand new in this picture.
I use compartment #1 for everything "dangerous", like...
Hi guys!
Very fun post, I didn't have time to read all of it yet but I am interested.
I tried to heat a greenhouse with hot compost :)
I failed for two reasons:
1 - I was doing a test run and I have a very small greenhouse, so it couldn't hold a pile large enough to produce heat. This...
