Thanks. Everybody was surprised to see that there was a peahen at fair. Everybody kept calling Thora a peacock and I would tell them the proper term for the female peacock is peahen. I was surprised she let so many people pet her. It was lots of fun! One kid asked if they could take her home...
Thank you guys. I plan on bringing her back, I had people taking photos of me and her, and Thora with their kids. When they would leave I would sometimes hear the mom say, " You can tell your friends at school you went to the fair and brag about how you got to pet a peacock." There was a lady...
I hope so! It must be fun being able to judge poultry shows. Usually the judge will have every pen their bird up to show how well the bird reacts to being restrained but since me and the girl with the pigeon had tethers he didn't ask us to pen our birds. Also Thora didn't fight at all. She...
Also I was a judge for the Parent Poultry Show. A few of us poultry kids had our parents show our birds. I think what would happen would be like my drake Kenia situation. He loves attention and he will even put himself in trouble to get some more attention.
For Thora I just got her when she was two weeks and would spend an hour spending time with her, petting perching on my finger, feeding watering, and snuggling. She was so cute as a chick but now she is beautiful. Then towards the end of December I got her used to a tether and did tether work...
I did 4-H for 2 years and then I went to FFA. The two years for 4-H were Dog and poultry. Those that bring exotics also have a duck or chicken. I will have to take pics of our fair. Beef and poultry are my favorite types of species to show. FFA we have a record book but not a project book like...
No. Animals don't need to be weighed unless they are being sold. If they are being sold they have to make a minimum weight and for some of the market animals they can't exceed a certain weight either. Beef you can get them as fat as you want. Pig stick no halter or lead just move them with a pig...
Both. The Fair has 4-H and FFA members. Since I'm the only FFA member showing poultry I have to show with 4-H members. Otherwise FFA members show by themselves and 4-H members show by themselves until Champion competition were the 1st place winner in each class gets to show against each other...
You lost the bet then. Every Saturday I have a poultry meeting at my advisors place with other kids from 6 to 14 years of age. we have ten kids with their parents at our meetings and we have all of our birds on carpets on tables. The tether is working and it's what I have to work with. If I...
Surprisingly Thora stands still so long as I have her on carpet or on my arm she sits. Tether is only used during showmanship part. Otherwise no tether just a # band around the leg that can come off and they can run around their pen as long as they want.
There is a part of poultry that you can show peafowl but I'm the first to show peafowl at this fair. The rules state that if you have a bird that can fly it must be tethered. Flying in their definition is a bird like a pigeon or a dove or peafowl. Not chickens. The showmanship part you must put...
