The humidity is highly dependent upon one's climate. I add water 2 or 3 times during incubation and take it quite high at hatching. It works for me but perhaps not you. Weighing eggs, to me, is the most accurate since I find calibrating hygrometers to be tedious and how does one accommodate...

Some research I read that if the eggs are touching each other, the vibration of hatching encourages the others. Just got all the chicks out of the hatcher in time to move these last 2 eggs in. The first pip happened about 6 hours later.

It was pretty lively but couldn't get off of its back. You may also see the left foot balled up. I was never going to breed it and the amount of time it would have taken to attempt to fix the one foot was too much. And it may never have walked anyway so I put it down. It's frozen right now...

I use this scale for individual eggs. http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/product_view/topgifts/7184057/supreme_weigh_sw09_600_0_1_gram_pocket_digital_jewelry_scale/commercial/accessories/accessories and one like this to weigh cartons, for mixing feeds and even buckets of chicks...

Here's a new one on me at least.\ As you may know I've been hatching a lot of chicks. I know a lot of people rescue chicks that don't hatch on their own but in my experience they don't do well. I helped 3 chicks yesterday. One died immediately, one isn't doing too badly but has a bit of a club...

I have 15 eggs in the hatcher due today. I'm not sure what time of day I set them but probably toward evening. There are 3 external pips. I have 39 more eggs in the incubator with 4 different set dates. I also have 2 newly broody hens. I have some major repairs to do to the incubator, changing...

It is sad but common in the animal world. They don't have million dollar pre-natal care.

With a broody, I stay hands off. If there's no viable anything, she'll be off of the nest. In the last couple weeks I've hatched over 30 chicks. Some came out in a couple hours some took 30 hours.

I have chicks coming out the wazoo. I have 7 older chicks, 11 hatched last week, 11 hatched this week and 4 more are pipping. There's another 60 eggs that will hatch in a staggered fashion. 12 due Friday and 15 more due Monday. Wow, this really has become the August hatch-a-long.

I hatched 1 chick about 3 weeks ago, six 2 weeks ago, five in the last week and there are about 7 in the hatcher with more pips.

100-101 is perfect at the top of the egg. So that's something to consider, where the thermometer is located. Are your barney eggs dark?

I have this one in my hatcher and it works pretty good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Accurate-Electronic-Thermostat-Incubator-Eggs-12V-/320686103970?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaa619da2 I bought that controller but I haven't installed it yet. I have 2 of these but they haven't been very...

You guys are a family of enablers. I hated thermometers till I lucked out and found two that are extremely accurate. The first one I got was a Brinsea spot check which I didn't trust because it didn't agree with any of the others. Turns out it was the only accurate one which I found out when I...

Sounds right. Does it matter? I don't think so. It depends on where in the incubation it occurs. The first week they can cool completely. Later in the incubation that can be bad. There's some good information here. http://www.brinsea.com/Articles/Advice/PowerOff.aspx I hope it's right.

The sponge will increase the surface area which increases humidity. Surface area, not volume, increases humidity.

3 of the 9 eggs in the hatcher are pipping. I have three chicks 4 days old, so the new ones will go with them. I also have an 11 day old that is with two 4 week olds. I have four that are 2 months old. I had six that hatched under broodies on Easter but a mink killed them all.

You shall not be judged for mutts. Keep in mind that the hen with the chick probably won't adopt the ones you hatch since hers will be a month old already and she'll be over the mothering instinct. However since you have silkies and a cochin, one of them may go broody by then. Pretty eggs...

I have 7 eggs in the hatcher that are due to hatch in exactly 19 hours. I just checked them and there's an external pip on one. Trouble is, I was stupid and added an egg a day to the incubator for 5 days so I need to slip a couple more eggs in there or leave them in the incubator. I have...

I have 2 of the 4 eggs in the hatcher pipping externally. I didn't keep track of the date I set them but just judge by candling when to move them. I moved them 4 days ago. I have another 63 eggs in the incubator at various stages of development. Some are due in 6 days. They're all Black...

Bummer. For questions about spikes and dips, Brinsea has some good information. http://www.brinsea.com/Articles/Advice/PowerOff.aspx Though electrolytes are good, if they're from healthy breeders with good nutrition, they don't need them. A broody won't be providing electrolytes.
