Has anybody tried to replicate the Aveda scent? I LOVE the scent and I would like to try to make some goat's milk bar soap with this scent. I found on-line that the Aveda scent is composed of the following: lavender, ylang-ylang, bergamot, rosemary, peppermint, and orange, but I have no idea...
I think you're talking about another, ah sheesh I don't know the terminology, anyway, this one is called "Soap Makers Help"; the one that you're referring to is called "Soap Makers Reference Thread" here on BYC.
My mold is ready, it literally goes from liquid to thick clumps in about 30 seconds.
I do know the difference between EO and FO but I didn't know there was a difference in oils for the cold and hot processes.
Always learning, thanks for the help everyone.
I have some oils from an on-line...
I'm knitting, reading and disgusted with soaping! My recipe keeps seizing when I add the EO's. Swirler is taking a look, hopefully he/she can solve my soap problem.
I'm sorry for the slow response Swirler, I didn't get a notificaiton about your response. I made four different batches. One batch was a single scent, and I think the other three batches were combo's of different scents (a combo of two). I bought them at Michael's Crafts. My lye says 100%. My...
This is my second season of soap making and I'm have a problem with seizing. I'm going to try not ramble so please stick with me!
I mix my oils on the stove and set on low to warm/dissolve/mix. The temp ends up between 90-100. Mean while, I mix my lye and frozen goats milk. The final temp...
BockBock, if you read the forum and take notes, you can jump right in with the GM. I read all of the pages and took tons of notes too. I started with GM and it's been just fine. The only time it went wrong was when the milk was just cold, not frozen, and technically it didn't "go-wrong" it...

The vinegar is used to neutralize lye.
I have heard both arguments about vinegar. Some say use it others say don't use it. Me personally, I just rinse with cold water for 30 seconds or so.
That said, it's highly advised that you wear eye protection and gloves while making your...

Thanks for the info, Morgaine.
I'm going to be teaching classes every week in January & February (spinning, knitting & soap making), so I better not commit to it.
I wish I lived closer so I could attend your classes.

Right, the chlorophyll bar I had was more perfume-y I guess, but not overwhelming or too sweet, either. My dd and I really liked it and would love to reproduce it. Where did you get your chlorophyll? I was going to order it online, but it sounds like you maybe found yours locally.
I...

Lmao over here~ I know what you mean and it's hard to not stare. I would so not be putting an attention grabber like that on my muffin topped butt to go out in public! Don't people check the mirror before leaving the house anymore?
Glad you had fun, your table looks great...

Here you go!
The other end-
I'm slowly learning to recognize a light trace so I don't get blindsided by a fast seize (as you can see by the upper left and lower right bars that look like swiss cheese).
My batch will seem to be okay but then I add the scent (EO's) and yee haw...
