Use ALL the shredded soap. The amount of water/vinegar in this recipe is okay. You will be surprised how much liquid it takes!

What I would be concerned about is her base recipe .... it is about 24% superfat! Yup! 24% That much of excess oil in your soap recipe isn't good at all!

Just imagine if your detergent contained 1/4 of its amount as oil ... do you really think your clothes would come out clean???

Thank you for responding! I'm too new at this to tweak. Thought maybe using a recipe from a tried and true book would be a good start. Did end up more expensive than I hoped. I need to find a better bar soap recipe that can be used in a laundry soap recipe. Since I've already made It i will use it and see what happens. Thank you so very much for helping me.

Btw, I was actually thinking it would take more water, not less. I shredded 3 gallon size bags using her recipe.

Ouch. I don't even think my salt bars are that high for a superfat! My laundry soap, I use 0% superfat.

If you want cheap, make a lard soap.

I prefer to use coconut or palm kernel at 0% SF for a laundry pre-wash. (I don't use it to launder clothes, I prefer detergent.)

Coconut or PK is my choice because of the high lauric fatty acid help lift off the dirt, grease and "farm matter".

A while back someone posted a link to a website that sold all the soap colorants and other supplies. They also sold kits and stuff too but you could buy individual items. Does anyone know what site it might be? Or if you could just tell me what sites you use to order supplies from that's be fine too. thanks!

Me too. Coconut, 100%, 0% superfat. But if you're aiming for cheap, lard is cheaper and still effective.
