YES!!! It is my third passion, behind Nursing and Birds!!! I used to work at Busch Gardens Tampa, I did several plant displays there and a prizewinning Orchid Arch at the 2004 St Pete Garden Show. That's the only thing I ever miss about the big city...out here in the sticks all the Good Ole...
Here is a rough sketch of the hardscaping and plants. I did not include mosses as they are growing on rocks and tucked in corners.
As for Quail, I do keep coturnix but I don't want to add anything yet till I get my flight built off the front, I know that I'm at a minimum sq footage so I won't...
I only have 3 but they are Giants. I plan to use two of the three garden bed Coop toppers to grow out my baby rabbits, I can put each of the Girls in their own little cement sided dome with a nest box and plenty of spent greens. Our Bunnies have been raised in movable ground pens so they have...
Thanks! for the reassurance! They aren't trying to kill the selves fling into the wire when I go out anymore, like I said, My Pheasants know me and could care less if I'm there so they seem to be helping the ducks to realize I'm ok. Man are they Pretty!!! And Man I'm I glad it's finally Done...
Did you see the earlier posts?....I can do a rough sketch for you tonight and put it up tomorrow.
I will for sure take more pictures but my Mandarins are VERY nervous! My Female scraped her bill when they first got released and tried to fly out.
They calmed as soon as the Pheasants went in but...
Thanks... I read a thread on gbwf.org forum about how you can keep birds happy without having huge aviaries if you give them lots of things to stimulate them....I planted lots of edible bushes and herbs, laid grass sod and added other types of grass, driftwood and lots of natural substrates...
Nice pens.... Thanks for the advice Tony I will take further precautions. gonna have tarp over most exposed wire...bottom is all pallets 3' up. I have 1" Hex on my chicken coop...never had one tear thru in 7 years...but from what I understand northern racoons are much larger than ours here in Tn.
Thanks Tony! Can they get out of the 1" hex wire? Will the Mandarins kill them?
I built the pond up to deture chicks from getting in. Do you think they'll be ok?
BTW you guys are great, the advice and encouragment are much appreciated!!!
I feel your pain birdman!!! I thought this was gonna be a quick project but so much goes into the constuction of an environment! Almost done though!!! Door are painted and back on, pond done, dusting area finished and roosting branches secured. All that's left is finishing the sod, covering wire...
Thank you!!! Money wise...yes I know...time too!
I told my hubby it's my Christmas present this year!!! But I really think it's thiers (the Pheasants...and Ducks!!!!).
I was lucky to get such a great deal on plants...I paid 10 and 15 dollars for my Jap maples, and 4 dollars for fancy...
UPDATE: ALL BUSHES, TREES AND HARDSCAPING IN PLACE..ALL THAT'S LEFT INSIDE IS PLUMBING, SAND AND SOD...THEN I CAN HANG THE DOORS AND PLACE THE TARPS AND WE'RE DONE!
DUCK POND FOR THE PAIR OF MANDARINS COMING NEXT WEEKEND!
SAND AROUND THE RAISED POND WILL KEEP IT DRYER AND HOPEFULLY SAFER FOR...
It sucks you have no help. I have some sporadically. That's not a bad price for what you're getting...I'm in about $350 for this one but I'll have leftover materials and it's so worth it! It's my Christmas! Like I said can't wait to see pictures! Got a ton done with my best friend's help...
