And I'm done! 8 fluffy babies made it out of their eggs. I had one pip into a vein and three that must have stopped on the day I put them into lockdown. . . Hmmm. But 8 happy babies is enough they are so cute and I love them!
I have some of @bamadude 's eggs cooking in my Brinsea octagon eco right now and so far all the ones I've candled have veining (only day 5). They are doing so well I can't wait, but if you would post a picture of said White crested baby, I would be forever grateful!!!! As for my HAL chicks only...
12 out of 24 eggs made it to lock down 8 serama and 4 barnyard mixes. A few I can't see through the shell and I'm hoping they hatch but who knows and one looks iffy.
I would guess so but who knows until they either lay and egg or crow lol. But I would say 90% she's a she not a he lol.
That's the cutest thing I've heard all day lol
This four week old OEGB was all alone so she got put with two day old serama chicks. I never thought a four week old chick would have such a strong mothering instinct. The cuteness is almost too much.
Yes, but really you can do it in egg cartons standing up as well. Really you just want to make sure to stop turning so they can position themselves. So I lay mine horizontally (flat) on their sides to hatch and have never had a problem. Some prefer the cartons to keep the chicks from playing...
I'm assuming it's the Octagon Eco and I wouldn't recommend lowering the temperature for lock down but you use the same little knob that you should have used to calibrate the incubator. It's near where the cable goes into the lid. You just turn it right or left to raise or lower the temperature...
I have the Eco Octagon and I love it. It will hardly ever fluctuate and when it does it's one or maaaaybe two degrees at most and not for long. The big thing is do you have the time to turn your own eggs? It only takes 10 seconds to do it in the octagon since you just turn the whole incubator...
I told my husband about it and he started laughing and then said how is that hawk still alive? It can't even kill a tiny bird! But I give my girl most of the credit she a little survivor.
I watched a hawk fly away with one of my OEGB's and it broke my heart. I went outside about a half hour later and there she was hopping back from up the road. No feathers on one wing and most of her tail feathers were gone but no real injuries. I tried to bring her in and put her in the chicken...
I had my incubator in my spare bedroom. I went into lockdown on day 18 and bumped the humidity up to 75% and started my humidifier in the room at the same time. I figured that the rooms humidity would be around 50% (I've measured it before for my tropical plants that live in that same room) and...
