Well of the 18 eggs I set under the 2 broodies I am down to 4!!! 2 Barred rocks went through and ate a bunch of eggs!! Worst part is I saw development in all but 3 eggs! Sadly we culled those hens cuz we have had NO success breaking egg eaters

I fear I'll face something similar situation with the cat breaking the glass on my coolerbator, temperatures being so unsteady...i guess i'll find out tomorrow when I candle...

Anxious are you? Waiting on those eggs..well, this makes me anxious just watching it...maybe he knows about a beautiful looking clutch of eggs up there and he's going for them! Worth the trip.

Hey I know that area, or at least a dozen just like it. Always fun seeing the dunes! I grew up on fun like that.

I do, out of the two batches that I got shipped, one is doing well, one isn't.   Sadly, had to take out quite a few of my winning Marans.  Some are very dark and I can see the air sacs..a couple are quite high, most of the others are doing what I now understand the meaning of...glowing.  :(   I went ahead and opened 4, nothing, no blood, not even a start of anything.  I fear this may be the case with most of the others.
On the other had, some silkie eggs that I got, 6 out of 8 are doing great.  On their sides.

I did shipped on their sides all last year without a problem. This year I've been getting some pretty beat up eggs in. My first batch of shipped died halfway through incubation because of really loose air cells. So I am going to have to switch to incubating upright on the really hammered ones I get in from now on!

Busy prepping for the impending chicksplosion - this thread moves so fast and so many wonderful things have happened in just a day!!!

Coming down the home stretch for the first wave! The brooder gets disinfected this weekend, and I'll fire it up at the beginning of the week to get toasty warm!
Great picture!

This!

It really depends on the condition of the eggs! If they are scrambled, then it is very important to give them the star treatment.
