The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well so far out of 38 eggs I have 26 chicks! I started with 46 eggs, 6 were infertile, 2 quitters and 2 dead pips (not sure what happened?). I've got two more trying to hatch, they are super slow and taking their time about it. Hopefully they make it out, it's crazy, some of those babies went...

I think they might have planned it! We should start an support group, the On Time Hatchers Anonymous group. For us poor souls who are forced to wait. LOL

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

That's really too bad. It makes it worse that it was your own dog, I've had dogs that went after chickens in the past, I never really look at them in the same easy going way afterwards. And it's really hard for me to not be mad at them for a few days. I always end up really attached to...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Wow, rough day it's tough to lose any of them, but a favorite is even worse! Are any of the eggs in the bator your own chickens eggs? Could they be skittles's eggs? Hopefully you'll get a good hatch from here. Maybe some fluffy chicks will help bring cheer.

Thanks! It just started snowing here today, it was in the high 60's low 70's last week, I thought it was going to be spring. I have sweetgrass turkeys too, they roost on TOP of the coop LOL. But the Tom is a jerk, so I'm not super impressed.

WOW! Beautiful turkeys! Are those regular bronze or broad breasted bronze? Your turkeys look much nicer than mine! :) Do you sell hatching eggs?

I was surprised because she was over a week and a half late, and because I thought she had twins, not that little giant! But I was expecting lambs, so mainly happy to finally get the ball rolling. One more girl to go, then I can relax! Relax and get back to tapping my fingers on the incubator

Look what I found yesterday!!! Excuse the dirty pen, they are just in my temp. lambing yard, and happened (of course) to be in dirty part for the pictures.

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Candled all 46 of my eggs on Friday, day 7. I had 6 none fertile ones, and 3 iffy ones. Other than that a bunch of embryos bouncing around in their eggs!! So that's 37 for sure growing at this point! Hopefully all 40 are growing! Does anyone know what causes eggs to just stop growing...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I candled on Friday. Had 6 infertile, and 3 that had veins but I couldn't see an embryo. But I'm excited that I have 58 growing great! Those embryos were bouncing around like crazy!! Very excited. Now just to cross my fingers that they keep growing.

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

No, that's okay! I don't mind hearing positive reviews. I prefer to buy from people like that. I am in South Dakota, so I wouldn't be picking them up locally LOL. 15 hour drive for chicks is extreme, even for me! I've actually been on their website before. I was considering ordering from...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Hi there, I haven't made any in a while, but my boyfriend just used some scrap wood with a couple screws to make rectangle molds. Think like a skinny picture frame, but with 2 inch high sides Then we just use parchment paper (which we already have on hand) as the liner when we use them. I...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Oh yeah, it's great fun! I mostly enjoy being around and looking at adult chickens, they are much better looking after a year or two, to me at least. I have Heritage and rarer breeds too, so they normally take longer to grow up. I never end up having time to play or fuss over the babies, so I...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I have still eaten eggs that have been under a broody for 2 days. Don't know if anyone else would want to, but I didn't notice any difference, still tasted fresh. I know eggs just sitting at room temp on the counter are good for about 3-4 months and 6 months in the fridge. I think it could...

Well I'm sure you'll have more success this time around! And so far everyone on this thread has been really helpful, so you'll have a bunch of support! This is my first time with a new incubator and first in a few years! Last time I hatched was about 10 years ago, but I'm very excited to get...
