Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Hola MHP Family, been awhile since I posted an update about three cockerels we hatched this spring via this brilliant method. They were hatched 04/1/16 (from what I recall, will have to double check that). Anyhoo, we are particular to the grey one. We have one in isolation (the splash) as he was...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

So this years MHP youngsters will be 5 months old next week, doesn't seem possible. Grabbed a few shots, they all are becoming handsome young cockerels. The grey one seems to be our favorite for a replacement for our BO roo. He is the alpha, the friendliest so far (I know that can change)...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Got a few good shots today. Wondering about the white roo. He is from a Rumpless Araucana dad and Russian Oroloff Hen, could that make him a rumpless EE? He is the bottom of the pecking order out of the three roo's. Easter Egger Oliver Egger

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Well I can say before this our BO roo was pushing his limits and was more aggressive. It seems now that he has more to keep him occupied than trying to chase and get the hands that feed. Maybe he realizes he better train his replacement t proper :D sorry you are having a hard time finding...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Roo update - so our BO alpha roo has pretty much taken the three cockerels from our hatch under his wings now, so to speak. It is like a roo school right now, they are learning the ropes by following him around. He started by allowing the white too, youngest from our hatch into the coop at night...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Ok been a little bit since I posted an update.... This was a thrift store find that was just too cute to pass up for $2, thinking of painting it fuscia. How is this MHP related, you ask? Glad you asked, well it holds eggs and those pictures are of eggs that are from our mixed flock that we...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

No decision yet, waiting to see how things play out and how they progress, who steps up in the alpha roll out of the three and how they are with the other birds and our alpha roo. If one stands out we will hang onto as a possibly replacement for our BO roo, the others will be processed for our...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Been a bit since I posted some pics of our boys from our hatch this year. They are progressing nicely, free ranging with our alpha roo and flock and roosting in the run at night. They will be 4 months next week.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

So we opened up a side of the young cockerels run to allow them to intermingle with our flock and roo. Things have gone well. Rocco is protective of them now, tidbits for them but doesn't let them get too close to his girls. The girls are also pretty mercilious with them and chase them. The...

Joint pains? Don't get me started.....for those interested check out supplementing with MSM it's a mineral that we all need for collagen production as well as numerous other things. I started dosing with it a couple times a day along with absorbic acid (pure Vitamin C) been doing that about a...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

My understanding on the OE is that it is true, seen the pullets eggs they produce and they are olive. The dad is a rumpless Aracauna and the mom is an EE and the EE parentage is the same rooster and a Russian Orloff hen.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Thanks all that chimed in on their young cockerel situations, we are going to try and allow ours to have the run of the property until fall. Hoping they will come back to the run for roosting. We will be splitting our two flocks more evenly and moving some of our laying hens to our farm spot for...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Nice looking g hoop coop and that was kind of you to provide that too him. You're hatch rate of male to female was much better than ours. Our eggs we got from a neighbor across the resevior and her birds were younger. My understanding is that can affect the male/female ratio. Thanks for...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Hi, been awhile since I posted an update from our hatch of 04/01/16. As we kinda suspected all three are cockerels, about two weeks ago we moved them from our spot in the suburbs of Denver to our farm spot north. I split our covered run in half and gave the cocekerels the small coop, our roo and...

Yeah, been waiting and heard the grey one crow this am when I was collecting eggs. I suspected a cockerel after looking at wing feathers at day 3. We will wait.....:/

Just paying some brigade dues even though our babies are now 10 weeks old, at about week 6-7 they begun roosting with the adults. Man they grow so fast, wish they would stay chicks forever!
