Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Press & Seal. The configuration is really up to you but yes, what you said would work. You will need to figure out the legs if you use wire shelving unless you can bend it into a cave. I like having open sides. You will need to adjust the height as the chicks grow. You want them to be able...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

So sorry for your loss! I understand the mindset issue as I just had a massacre of my quail. It just sucks the joy out of keeping poultry for a while. You said brute force, I’m assuming you are referring to a four legged predator and not two?

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Actually I didn't! They are scary tiny little things but they are tough little Buggars! Once they warmed up under the lamp they were fine. Amazing. I have I couple that I'm not sure will make it long term but so far so good!

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'm so glad we are back! I had a bit of a challenge with my quail babies and MHP, all my fault! I started out with the same setup I used for my chicks just smooshed down but I had 32 out of 50 hatch so I needed more space. I tried to create a flat late with legs in the front and the back slanted...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I need to cross pollinate this thread a bit. I have 50 quail eggs being delivered on the 26th and I have my incubator an brooder ready. Then I realized with a 50% hatch rate I could potentially have 25 quail! I didn't really think twice about needing to do anything different with my MHP since...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'm guessing B. 4:30 am is early! I'd let them follow their normal body clocks if they are acting normally in everything else.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

That has to be LOUD! I know when I go to the PO to pick up my order of 10-20 chicks I can hear them from the front door!

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I live in North Texas, ordered 10 chicks, have a shed as a coop with windows open and have had chicks with no heat. They have been healthy and happy since Friday. :)

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I've always heard once a predator knows where the buffet is they will keep coming back but honestly other than the one time my entire flock was wiped out my predator losses have been very spread out. I would probably only allow supervised range time for a day or two then go back to business as...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Mine was in a "coop" that I had cobbled together for my meaties. By the time they were done with it and I brought it in and took off the press and seal, it was a wet nasty mess. Still putting out heat though! Washed it and it works fine. Um, the feeling may be mutual. ;) Hope she makes it...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Could they have been a different breed and been female? I don't speak chicken genetics but I'd be surprised if they had a whole order of roosters from a hatchery. You don't need to start smoking, they need to educate their employees!
