It's not pretty, but it works. The chicks safe spot in the coop. I love being able to find what I need with what scrap I have laying around, especially for something temporary.
azygous I dont recall if it was you or aart who have a cinder block in a chick playpen, but that seems to be a good size for a portal hole for someone who needs to just throw something together
Thank you! Yes I'll be finding a way before roost time tomorrow to make sure they have the ability to go in and out and still have their own privacy when needed. It's sure been a busy two weeks here. I just succeeded in breaking my first broody this week too. Finally, I looks like I'll be back...

Thats about the only downside I've seen with this system. Now that I have them in the run and their own pen, I've gotten freaked if I havent see them all there. Then I"d wind up disturbing them by lifting the cave.
Personally I'd stick with a dowel. You could double the wire on top if you're concerned about weight.. Kinda hard to say without dimensions.
