Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Hi all! My babies went from going in and out of the cave to completely ignoring it during the day from one day to the next! Now, they are still under there for the night at setting 5. Go figure... Here they are sunbathing in the brooder.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'm still using P&S on the towel and it made it a breeze just wiping the poop from the top. So far, it's been working for me as I don't want to deal w yucky towels and I don't have the heart to throw away anything that could be reused. I just had the chance to read Blooie's and Azygous'...

Hope it works well for your geese. It gives me such peace of mind knowing I don't have a heat lamp on during the night or when I'm not home.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Good luck! I don't remember reading about your set up in previous posts, but just to make sure: you are going to raise the chicks within eyesight of the big ones in the coop, but with a barrier between them, right? I just don't want your chicks to be killed in the event the big ones don't...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

It's my first time ever using the MHP and the advice I got here is to watch the behavior. If they feel comfortable w the highest setting, so be it. I have mine in a well ventilated basement w windows. The temp there is around 60 and my chicks are 2 weeks old. They still prefer the highest...

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

You should've seen what happened BEFORE this pic. What you see is half duct tape. There were 2 chicks attached to each other, one by the head and the one shown by its side the way to the ear and wing. They came running in panic from the cave. I couldn't take a pic at the time bc I got so scared...

I totally agree w lazygardener . From the description I didn't think it could be crazy chick disease, but after I watched that video it really seems like it, minus the belly up display. I've seen some chickens w the same behavior, same diagnosis. Wishing the best for your chickTerryH

Thanks! That's a relief to know. I touched that wire and it felt so hot... I'm going to try the pad on the inside the same cause if beekissed and you switch the pad to inside the cave, so will I

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I went ahead and covered the whole thing. Different people on this thread have done different things apparently w good results. My HP sits on top of the 1/2 inch wire that covers the tomato cage. Then, the towel goes on top of HP. I did cover the tips of the cut wires with duct tape b/c they...

I'm glad they're not rejecting her. Weird after being used to the MHP they don't want to go back in there. I'm sure you'll find what's bugging them. Cooked eggs mashed w nutri drench are a good source of vits. as well if you'd like to try.

Press n'seal is working for me for now. They were trying to eat it and I removed it. Then, they tried to pull the threads from the towel and eat them, so I wrapped it up again. Crazy birds!!!
