    Pekins going bow legged

As of right now, one of them has made an almost full recovery as far as I can tell. Standing tall, running around, still a tiny bit pigeon toed, but looking better. The other sadly is not recovering. I'm continuing to treat as aggressively as I can but this poor little duckie just isn't...

Thx. The crafty little bugger wiggled out of the harness I had it in overnight too. Silly thing, I'm trying to help you! :p I am happy to see the other recovering though.

    Pekins going bow legged

second day of the duckies out in the yard. I moved them to a more shaded area of the yard today. The larger of the two isn't showing much improvement sadly. However, the slightly smaller one is showing VAST improvement. Standing tall, less pigeon toed, running around. I'll try and snag some...

So I hit TSC and Walmart today to stock up on first aid supplies :) I got some epsom salt, vet wrap, triple antibiotic WITHOUT 'caine. I got some gauze, some plain old aspirin, some 12ml syringes. I have an old tool box I'll use for avian first aid so I'm better prepared in the future.

You guys can have all the grass you want :p. I have 1.3 acres and we've had so much rain I can't mow it. I had a guy come through with a brush hog to cut it because my lawn had literally turned into a hay field. It's still out of control because we've what feels like 2 weeks of rain. When I...

    Pekins going bow legged

So this thread has been kinda full of doom and gloom I feel like. I wanted to at least brighten it up a little bit, so I give you: Their first full day out in the portable pen I built for them. I built it out of 2x2's and painted it with livestock safe barn paint. The wire is just basic...

    Pekins going bow legged

Yea it is too bad. I noticed all this happening when they were just shy of 2 weeks. They weren't exhibiting any symptoms prior to that. I think the smaller of the two will pull through, and may walk with a bit of a funny look, but otherwise be ok. The other, i'm afraid is unlikely to recover...

    Pekins going bow legged

I just weighed the rougher of the 2 and he's 2.15lb at 4.5 weeks. I certainly over estimated their weight, but they're still much bigger than the khaki campbells.

    Pekins going bow legged

Looking closer during water time today I think the bigger of the 2 actually may have a sipped tendon in one of its legs. I notice one of his ankles is far more inflamed than the other. I also notice that what looks like the tendon that would normally run along the back of the hock joint seems...

    Pekins going bow legged

I was originally dosing niacin. I was dosing 100mg per gal of water. I started dosing brewers yeast only 2 days ago. They've been dosed the niacin since about 2 weeks of age. Unfortunately no avian vet available and financially it wouldn't fly :( These 2 weren't noted as being "jumbo" pekin...

    Pekins going bow legged

That is certainly my concern. I'm not sure if the food was not good enough from the beginning or what exactly happened with them. I'm going to do the best I can to help them recover and improve, but I'm getting the feeling that by 4 weeks, the outcome may not be great. All I can do is help...

    Pekins going bow legged

Things aren't looking so good for the bigger of the 2 pekin. I noticed tonight that one of its legs seems to be even more turned inward. I premixed about 10 cups of food with brewers yeast so it's set and ready to go. The other seems to be at least a little better. I guess all I can do is...

I"ll try and get some pictures of the two duckies this weekend to show you how things have progressed at this point. They have continued to grow like crazy, are starting to lose the yellow fluff and turn white. One of them also has started to have a more distinct quack mixed in with peeping.

    Pekins going bow legged

Unfortunately no Walgreens or vitamin shops near me. Tried walmart, meijer, CVS, and a couple smaller pharmacies. We are potentially making a trip into town today where there are many more stores so hopefully I can find some today. Having a super rainy day today which is a bummer. I'm...

    Pekins going bow legged

Thx. Unfortunately I have not been able to find brewers yeast anywhere. I'm surprised because I feel like I used to see it everywhere. I've stopped into probably 7 stores at this point and no one has any. I've been feeding the good food and have been adding sav a chick electrolyte and probiotics...

    Pekins going bow legged

At 4 weeks yesterday, one of the pekins is looking better. Still bowed some, but still able to get around. The other however still seems to be having some issues :(. That would be the same one that grew the biggest the fastest. They'll be heading outside in the next couple weeks full time so...

    Pekins going bow legged

Another long day at work. I came home and both pekins were still in their harnesses. I decided to put them back in gen pop this evening (the brooder with the campbells) so they have a little time back with the fam. I'll check them in the morning and see how they look, and probably put them back...
