my quail from this hatch love dust bathes to. even when i put a new bowl or something in there cage with nothing in it they do the dust thing lol. 2 of my hens started to lay eggs to which is cool.
just this week i lost 4 quail to the heat it got up to 116 on some days and still kept up to 108 at night. a few of my neighbors been losing chickens too. i now been putting four frozen gatorade bottles in there cage three times and day and it seems to help keep them cool.
man it sure is bummer that everyone is having problems i was hoping to see plenty pictures on newly hatched chicks.as of tomorrow all my chicks will be gone. put a add on craigslist for $2 each and within an hour a guy called and said he'll take all that i had. kind of thinking now maybe i...
thanks i really thought i would only get like 20 to hatch so im pretty happy. i will keep 20 and i traded 20 for 3 rabbits and will sell the remainder just dont know what price to sell them though. i did dry hatch on my chickens before and didnt have much luck. so for my quail went with 45-50%...
well my hatch is done. cracked the remainder of the eggs and had bunch that quit at early stages and had 3 that shrink wrapped in the eggs before getting out. i believe i have 60 chicks that alive and well. good hatch rate for shipped eggs. hope everyone else has good results these next few days.
i had a couple chicks that hatched like that and i got a few different answer. mine ended up dying a day or 2 later. i believe it is part of the intestines and the belly never closed up before hatching.
i thought all my excitement was all done with 64 quail hatching and 4 dying but i just checked the bator and looks like i may have another that wants to come out.
now have 26 quail hatched out and hope they keep coming. my quail are little busy bees only stoping to rest for about 5 to 10 minutes at a times. the rest of the time is spent messing with each other or eating/ drinking. i need to get a bigger box and then maybe ill put a teddy bear in with them...
i now have 20 quail in the brooder and one running around in the bator and few that zipping. here are few pictures i took. i order jumbo brown but i think i got 2 texas a&m quail in the mix.
good luck on your cabinet incubator hatch. i heard alot of bad things on here about the little giant and how it doesnt keep steady temps. so i went ahead and ordered the hovabator even though every feed store in the 20 mile radius of me had the little giants.
i now have 3 baby quail in the brooder with a few more piped eggs in the bator . i wish i could post pictures but i dont have a camera my sister is going let me borrow hers tonight so hopefully tomorrow i will have some pics posted. i dont know how those little guys fit in the egg when they come...
got 2 chicks in the brooder drying not sure if they hatched early because my temp gauge is wrong or if it is because they started incubating during shipping.
well i now am in lock down. of course i add water to the trough to make it 60-65% humidity and a storm comes and raises it to 73% i hope this wont drown the chicks and hopefully when it clears up the humidity will settle back down to 60%. so far i got a few eggs wiggling around in incubator so...
i had same problem yesterday i have been keeping temp and humidity steady this whole time and yesterday the incubator went 102 and the water drained out of trough that that was full yesterday. it was almost like the eggs absorbed all the water which made the incubator dry and spike to 102. today...
candled 5 more eggs tonight and 3 were really dark with good air cells and 2 were mostly clear with smaller air cells. going to keep them all in there just in case. these quail eggs are harder to see in then i thought. lock down for me will be saturday.
