She's gone now, probably in her sleep. I just want to thank everyone who responded to this thread and offered advice for how to help her. I do believe she was getting better, but whatever happened last night was out of the blue and something we couldn't prepare for. She's always been my favorite...
Unfortunately, she didn't pass in the night and she's even worse today. She can hardly move at all and is just growing skinnier. None of us have the heart to put her down, so we separated her from the flock. She's in a makeshift cushion and blanket nest in the garage right now, so she's at least...
I don't know what happened, but she got injured while we were out of the house. When we came home, one of the other hens had gotten out and the faverolle was laying on her side on the ground. I didn't notice it until I realized she wasn't in her corner.
She was still alive somehow and I picked...
With a bit of help, I was able to hold her and check her mouth. Of course, she complained, even before we could grab her.
But, her mouth looks healthy and clear, and shes continuing to eat and drink like normal. Though, she still walks a lot slower than the others.
Update:
Got home from work and checked her crop while they were roosting aaaaand...
It was full! It was probably because we let them out of their run today and she could find more bugs and stuff without the welsummer bothering her. I'd like to thank everyone again for their responses and...
Haven't been able to check yet, but I want to see whats up with this. I let them out once I got home, and she pooped on the ground. It was bubbly when it came out, though, and looks like this now. I take it this is bad?
At the time of taking the picture, I didn't. I was the only one home. I can try again in the afternoon when I have help, but I'm afraid she's gonna struggle too much and that I might scare her.
She didn't really like me wanting to get a picture, but I did see something on the bottom of her beak. It's kinda yellow-ish and it looks like it's on the inside too
Since she's moving a lot more now, it'll probably be hard to keep her still and not freak her out too much to check. Where would the plaques/canker be in her mouth (like roof of mouth, back, side, etc.)
The coop and run are pretty large. I don't know the exact dimensions since my parents built...
Got home from school so another update:
She's a bit more vocal today than she has been the past few days. She's drinking more too, but she's also been almost running away from the welsummer that picks on her. I poured some food on the ground in their run, hoping that it would be a wide enough...
They're all around 2 1/2 years and have all stopped laying. The welsummer is one of the bigger hens in the flock so it could have something to do with that. Before the other faverolle died, we had 2 (plus 3 welsums and a white plymouth rock) There were six in total for a majority of their life...
Another thing I should add:
Yesterday, before work, I checked her over. When I lifted up her wing, one of the welsummers came up and pretty much attacked her. She didn't draw any blood, but she chased her around the run before I could split them up and guard the faverolle. I saw another post...
Update: I just got home from work and checked on them as soon as I walked in the door. It's like 11pm here, so of course, they were all ready to sleep. Like I expected, the faverolle was on the bottom bar, away from the others. I reached in to check to see if her crop was full or not, and she...
I believe I saw her poop at least once after the incident, though we've been in and out of the house due to other reasons, so I haven't been around them long enough to see her do it again. Her crop seemed alright earlier, but she's always seemed a little skinny. Poor thing gets picked on a lot...
That sounds like it could work. We've got a large dog crate that can be used.
The main problem would be my schedule. When I leave for school, it's still dark outside which means they're not up and probably don't want to be bothered. Then I don't get home until around 3pm. Then some days I don't...
I
looked over her and it doesn't look like there's any injuries. Nothing under the wings, saddle feathers (apart from a few feathers growing in) chest, underside etc. She didn't complain at all when I checked. Is there anything else I should check?
