Here's a thread I started to track my new chicks' arrival and (hopefully) their adoption by my two broodies:

Well, I was only supposed to have 4. And I have 6 on the way now....
I don't want so many that I have a hard time giving them individual care. If I ever retire, then all bets are OFF!
Congrats on your new littlies!!! And I'm sorry you lost some. I hate finding little bodies instead of silly fluff balls.
Good to know about the Polish. Some of the losses in the DOA shipment I got the last time I ordered were Polish. Maybe I'll change that, too, then.
I was hoping May was...
I decided not to order a necropsy this time. I actually had her cremated by my vet. I am ok with it. I'm sure it was cancer or infection that led to the crop issues. I will be more careful handling sick chickens in the future.
I totally would, but I cannot afford more roosters in my small flock, unfortunately. I have a mature roo as well as a 6 week old cockerel. But I really, really appreciate the offer!
Ok. Chicks are set to arrive the week of May 2nd. And I've changed my order. Twice. And I may call and add another chick on Monday (another assorted rare breed, maybe). Can you tell I'm anxious and indecisive? 😂

Oh! I should update! I'm ordering SIX now!
1 fibro Easter Egger
1 Cream Legbar
1 Easter Egger
1 splash Marans
1 Olive Egger
1 rare breed assortment
This is due in part to the fact that one of those Leghorns I picked up is a cockerel! I need more females if I'm going to have 2 males, right...
It's so funny. My son says that Leghorns are the "default chicken," but I really love their big floppy combs. They make me think of those fancy schmancy fascinates ladies wear at the Lentucky Derby and royal weddings.
But "default chicken" is hilarious!
I'm calling them Saffron and either...
And I just realized that you said "NEGATIVE too many chickens." I don't want to be negative too many chickens. I have to add more to bring the number back up to the right amount.
Oh, thank you for setting me straight!
I ordered my current ducks and future geese from Metzer. If you order chicks from them, they come from elsewhere. This batch is coming from Meyer, which is in Ohio. I'm in CA. My original 4 chickens (my gateway flock, if you will) came through California Hatchery. Silly me, I thought it was a...
