My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

I would rather just raise the purebred NHs. 9 lbs at 12 weeks for a NH is better than 10 lbs at 16 weeks for a cross.

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

Their build seems to favor the NH rather than the Delaware, they are good looking roosters!

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

1 of my New Hampshire roosters is chasing hens & saw him successfully breed a NH hen. He couldn't catch my other layer breeds, haha.

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

I will be free ranging the NHs once they are 12 weeks old & I remove them from the chicken tractor. I hope this helps keep their weight down some. I have a good friend with a Cornish Cross Rooster that is a year or two old and is a MONSTER in size but is free ranged and runs/breeds ok. I...

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

Very nice! Anxious to see the 12 week weights. How are you weighing them? I thought about trying to put them in a kill cone and using a fish scale as a way to be more accurate.

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

It is really hard to get good photos and they don’t really show the difference in body mass very well, but here are mine: Delaware’s 8 weeks and NHs 9 weeks old.

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

It looks like the sexlink roosters are a significant amount smaller than the NHs. I am also very curious how the sexlink roosters growth compares to the pure Delaware growth rate. Being 1/2 NH, it has to be faster, but how much faster. If you could get sex link roosters to grow as fast as the...

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

Right now my NHs are 8 weeks old and Delawares are 7 weeks old, the NHs growth is seriously impressive and I am guessing is equivalent to red broilers like Red Rangers, Freedom Rangers, etc.

My Attempt at a Dual Purpose Heritage Flock

You You are doing the exact same thing that I am currently doing, except my Delawares are the enhanced broiler Delawares from MM hatchery & my NHs are from freedom ranger hatchery. I am excited to see how these are working out for you! It would also be interesting to grow side-by-side the...
