We have decided to get 2 more females and 1 male.
Next spring, we wont let any babies happen, we will pull the eggs as quickly as we can.. but.. maybe in another year or 2!!
I definitely would LOVE baby duckies, but, not yet.. I want to give it some time.. learn more about them.. and then go for it
We are really really debating over what to get... definitely 2-3 more females..
And we're trying to decide whether or not to get a male.. the idea of babies is both exciting and scary.. I dont know if our enclosure is enough for all of them.. 12ftx6ft?
I have NO CLUE anything about baby...
Well, we have her home.. and she is doing really well.
Been giving her the medicine, and she will go back next week to have the sutures removed.
I'm so glad this whole ordeal is behind us!
On Sunday we will be driving 1 1/2 hrs in hopes to bring home a few more ducks
Judy made it through surgery!!!!
I called around 1, she made it through, was up and moving around and they were getting ready to give her some food and water.
I'm just so delighted! Now I'm waiting to hear back from the Doc about when we can pick her up.. hoping tomorrow.
We've been working on...
So, we went to the rescue. Got the name of a vet that deals with all sorts of animals.
Took her to see the vet. She is staying there overnight, and the amputation is scheduled for the morning.
It is costly, but, we decided to do it. When it came down to it, I cant do that to her myself. And I...
Well, the injured one made it through the night!!!!!!!!! Yay!
She has her head up high, hanging out with her sister. She looks pretty good.
We will be calling an avian rescue today to see if they can help us figure out how to amputate her wing.
Their enclosure is almost finished.. we couldnt...
The wound is clean--we used Iodine and wrapped it up. It has been 6hrs since then, and the bandage has stayed on with no trouble.
She is calm in her house with her sister, I got them both to drink some water from a syringe earlier..
Thank you for the suggestion Chickensioux--I just put a post...
Update---Went to Lowes, bought everything we need to make them a 12ft x 6ft enclosure. Wood, The hardware cloth that is galvenized metal. Their house will go inside. There will be a top on it. The fence will go 6-12 inches deep into the ground. It should wind up being pretty safe. We spent more...
That sounds great, but, we have 2 young girls. How bad is the shock if they were to touch it?
Heading out to Lowes, getting all the supplies to build everything. Will have that done by tonight
Thank you for all the ideas and help and support
Alright I found the hardware cloth on Lowes website.
Cant find the electric fencing tape on their site.. I dont really understand how that works. Is it just a tape or is it wire, you just put it along the bottom of the run and you just hook it up to a charger? It doesnt need to be hooked in to...
Alright, well, what do you suggest then? I'm very open to ideas.. we will be heading to Lowes this afternoon (hubby worked night shift and does need a little sleep).
Yes it does, but, how does he keep the bend in it? Just forming it around the dirt or ??
I really appreciate the help. I havent stopped crying for the past hour.. I just cant believe this happened
Thank you for the kind words. Right now the 2 remaining are in their duck house which is actually a playhouse. We tied some rope around the entire house to keep the windows shut for now. And covered up the door..
My husband came home from work this morning and found that our Ducks had been attacked in the night.
2 of them are Dead, 1 is Injured (her wing is broken and she has several gashes, feathers missing). Only 1 of the Ducks escaped being harmed.
We do not know what got them. We live in a...
