If you actually read their study, it "worked" on about half the birds of ONE specific breed, but not well enough to reach any real conclusions.
Some of their data is questionable, since some of the parasites they mentioned aren't common in chickens, and one where they mentioned a "lower FEC"...

Silicosis is the result of breathing DE, and is well documented.
The particles in DE are so small it's unlikly they could damage the intestines, and it's often used in drug tests as a marker, since it passes through unchanged.
The FDA calls it "GRAS", meaning "Generally Regarded As...

This study shows DE not only had NO EFFECT on parasites, but actually HURT production compared to conventional worming methods
That's not an answer to my question, but no I am not "assuming" anything
I'm basing it on scientific data that says it doesn't work on internal parasites, and I've shown examples here and on other threads you've read
Here's someone who had necropsies done on when their birds died AFTER being...

"Field trials" are simply more anecdotal evidence.
Science usually isn't able to verify those claims in an actual lab trial
Whether I "agree" with statements or not in no way changes their validity.
I highlight them because they apply to the topic

I hear lots of people say that, but none who can ever really show proof.
And I did say "most", not all.
Have you done fecal tests to show your birds HAD worms when you started using it, and have none now, or are you just assuming they don't without really knowing?
So it's your contention that the Avian Research Centre at the University of British Columbia is part of some pro diatomaceous earth lobby, and theyre trying to put on over on people? And Poultry Science is a peer-reviewed journal, so the peer reviewers would have to be pro-DE, too.
I never...
To say that it is not beneficial to certain breed does not mean it doesn't work.
Nothing in that study ever stated it was good for killing internal parasites.
It's a definite "maybe"
The results of this study indicate the DE has the potential to be an effective treatment to help control...
For those interested in reading the abstract, it says:
Supplementing DE in diets of LB hens, the more parasite-resistant breed, did not significantly affect their FEC and adult parasite load
That part needed repeating
I am not sure why someone would say..it only kills bugs
Because many mistakenly believe it will also treat INTERNAL parasites, and "provide calcium and trace minerals", and cure most anything you can think of , when ALL it's been proven to do is kill insects
The only studies I have found that support that hypothesis are by those selling it.
Most of those aren't really even "studies" but are just anecdotal "reports".
90+% silicone which is good for you
LOL
Sand is mostly silicon. It's the most common element on the planet
It's ONLY "good" for those who SELL it to you..
Putting it in grain does NOTHING other than kill insects in the grain.
There is no benefit to feeding it to your animals
