    Yes, it did dry it right up. I liked it a lot but was warned not to eat the eggs after doing that. So sadly I had to buy eggs at the grocery store. I hated doing it!

    Yeah, six is good for me too. Getting the one may be tricky too like you said. As long as you slowly introduce them I guess or start your new hen with your less dominant hen Ruth. They could pal up.

    Gigijenn, I just wanted to add one thing. It is true what they say always purchase hens in even numbers. I noticed you have three and two are picking on one. Is it possible to buy one more to make it 4? That may help matters too.

    Sorry about the graphic picture......Here she is the day after the ordeal. This happened in one afternoon. I love this chicken, she is so sweet so I cried when I saw this. They did it right in front of me too when I walked in the coop.

    The wire mesh separation sounds perfect. They can still see each other but she will be protected and happy. It may be a little hard to figure out the separation but once it is in place everyone will benefit. Come spring everone will be happy especially since they are able to free range on...

    I have just been through this same ordeal. Once they taste blood unfortunately they do not stop. They will do it again and again. sorry to sound so negative but it is just something that happens. Mine were too cooped up after being free-range and took it out on the weakest. It is so sad.
