@BreInFlannel , the Tractor Supply in Lolo should be getting in baby ducks and chicks in the next couple of weeks. I don't know what breeds, but you can give the a call and see when they will be coming in, and possibly what breeds they will have.
That is exactly how my Wyandottes are! They are very alert, run everywhere and are very loud when I pick them up... once I can catch them!! LoL I am hoping the more I work with them, the older they get, the more calm they will become.
They have all settled in and for the most part, just go...
Yes, there are 9 chicks. There is a tunnel connecting the 2 tubs so they are able to go back and forth. Disregard what is in the tub, I have changed that whole set up already, lol. They seemed pretty peaceful for awhile, but the picking on each other seems to come and go. I have given them some...
I do have a question though. I have noticed one of them is being pretty mean to the others, grabbing them in the face area and dragging them all over! Is this normal, like establishing a pecking order?
I am north of Billings about 2 hours in Winnett. After researching and reading up on tons of breeds, I have decided I am going to get EE, Buckeyes, Barnevelder, and possibly the Star. The star will be my back up if something happens with one of the others on the order, lol.
I plan on ordering from my pet chicken. I haven't found any other sites that don't have a 15 chick minimum. These folks have a 3 chick minimum, but I plan on ordering 9-12 chicks.
I had no idea you could grow your own. I am all about doing, making, or growing as much as i can so i don't have to buy. Definitely will have to check into doing this next spring.
Silly question, but how to you grow mealworms? Are they something you order like worms for composting? Something i may consider doing once i get chickens up and going this next spring. I am so excited, not sure i will be able to wait that long! LoL
Rain is still coming down here, but we...
I am still very new to the whole chicken raising thing. Have to honestly say that on all the reading on breeds, i have never heard of the bbq breed lol.
Thanks for the welcome! Winnett is approximately 2 hours north of Billings. I have been doing tons of reading on here about heat lamp or not. Mostly what i am finding is that 8ts a personal preference, with alot of folks usuing more just a light to extend the daylight. Figured I would get the...
Hello from Winnett Mt. I have heen reading a lot of your posts, so very informative! I am just starting to get into the process of owning chickens. How overwhelming it can get!! :th Anyways, my hubby has been building me a coop, and he has insulated it for the winter months. With that being...
