    Beware about Hilltop farms

I didn’t get the test yet since I’m waiting to save up some more money for it, but I might not even need to do it because I’m pretty positive it’s mycoplasma. The 2 hens got better with denagard and a 3rd one is now showing a watery bubbly eye.

    Beware about Hilltop farms

I’ll look into them! I still really do want an Orloff, they’re gorgeous and I’m a sucker for beards and muffs lol. Super disappointed about hilltops, poor Orloffs died within a day or two. Hatched 6 Ameraucanas 6 weeks ago and all 6 are thriving.

    Beware about Hilltop farms

Aw a Russian Orloff. That breed is the exact reason I chose hilltop and both of the Orloffs I purchased were some of the chicks that died in the beginning :(

    Beware about Hilltop farms

Ok I can get the testing done through UC David by mailing in a tracheal swab! Getting the instructions and will be submitting the sample asap!

    Beware about Hilltop farms

The good thing about mycoplasma is after your flock is gone it only stays on surfaces and the environment for about 3 days, I’d probably wait a month or two just to be completely safe though. Looking into getting testing through a state lab, mine would be UC Davis.

    Beware about Hilltop farms

Yes it never goes away. If I get a positive test I’ll just keep my flock until they all die before adding new chickens since mine are pets and I will not cull them. So far the bubbly eyes is the only symptom in the two hens and nothing else. When I look up bubbly eyes mycoplasma is one of the...

    Beware about Hilltop farms

Well I think my flock now has mycoplasma from hilltop farms birds. It’s been almost 3 months since they’ve had contact with the chicks, and two of my hens have gotten runny bubbly eyes within the last two weeks. I guess it’s not unheard of for symptoms to show later like this. No other chicks...

    Beware about Hilltop farms

Yes she started to act sick around 4 weeks old so I treated her. It wouldn’t hurt to treat your chick if you suspect coccidiosis since it’s not an antibiotic, they can’t get resistant to corid.

    Beware about Hilltop farms

That was something I thought too. My chicks just died one after the other within the span of a week. I also feel like their birds may not be in the best of conditions. I searched up their address online and their lot is only 1.1 acres. Most of it is hillside too. To me, that’s an awful lot of...

    Beware about Hilltop farms

If you’re suspecting coccidiosis then yes I would treat with corid! My chicks didn’t have bloody poop but they had more than average intestinal shedding in their poop and the sickest Ameraucana had weird mucousy poop. I saw that a lot of people that got chicks from them also had their chicks get...

    Beware about Hilltop farms

Yes do not buy from hilltop farms! Purchased 8 chicks, 5 died within a week. Lost out on over $100! I’m very experienced in raising chicks too and have only had one other death before… all other chicks I had in the past were shipped, but I picked up chicks locally from Hilltop so I wouldn’t have...
