All- Thank you for your concern.
They were never sure what was wrong. Antibiotics and syringe feeding got her over the hump, so to speak, but the head rubbing and spinning never stopped. We put her down last week. She had good days and bad. Good days she was almost normal. Bad days she...
Ok, Cher is home and we will be hand feeding her for about a week at least. The vets aren't 100% on what's wrong but their #1suspect is Meraks. Their #2 suspect is a bacterial infection. So we are going to try to save her but if she can't feed herself after a week... Apparently the head on...
I know most of you will think I am nuts for taking a chicken to a vet but I view my ladies as half way between house pets and barn stock. So they go to the vet, but they get a tight spending limit.
The mites were gone by the time the vet looked at her but she was still doing that weird head...
Thanks for the advise, I will try the Adams spray on her two coop mates; they are starting to itch now too. I am taking Cher into the vet. I don't think she has eaten in 2 or 3 days and the only water she has gotten has been what I managed to syringe into her beak. She may have other issues...
They are actually black mites. De didn't do anything, Sevin is on now but so far little effect. Another weird note; I gave her a very thorough inspection and the mites are only on her head. She tore a bunch of feathers out of the back of her neck too. :/
Thank you everyone! I have ordered Sevin and poultry dust on top of using the DE right now. I am thinking of putting in a fake owl to scare off the pigeons. I just don't know if it would scare the ladies too...:/
Ok, went and bought a 50 lb bag of DE. Everyone has been given a DE bath though Cher was the only one I saw mites on. Also dusted the coops and runs. Now to figure out how to get rid of the dang pigeons. I am guessing they are the source of this little problem.
My polish, Cher, is curving her head down so she is face planting. She won't move. I tried to 'untucked' her and she flipped over onto her back then immediately righted herself and put her face in the nestbox floor again. She never even uncurved her neck. She keeps rubbing her forehead on...
