That's helpful to know about VINS - do they accept the occasional adult hen? (If "the girls" don't stop destroying my perennials, I'd like to have a handy threat for them!)
Hey there, Booted Hen, welcome! We're practically neighbors! I drive through Tinmouth often, especially when they have those terrific concerts at the Firehall. Booted Hen is such a neat name and brings to mind some old rooster episodes when we were both clamoring to be the boss. (I won)
The next...
Well, when it gets deep, we probably look kind of silly out there shoveling a path for the chickens - as long as they can see some grass, out they come.
Ours have done fine in an uninsulated, roomy coop...but we "cheat" and give them a heat lamp or two when it gets down to 10 or colder...for their safety and my peace of mind.
I'm not too happy about the rain-through-Saturday thing, since our daughter's getting married that day in Rutland! The night before we'll have everyone from the rehearsal (plus a few extras) over to our house for a casual dinner...fair weather would be nice.
I appreciate the warning...today I potted a zillion annuals into containers and also got veggie seedlings into the garden, then had to cover EVERYTHING or bring it inside - the day quickly went from hot to quite nippy later. This time I didn't forget to cover the poor spuds!
Yeah, I can't wait to get 'em into the garden (right after carpet shampooing and power washing the house, that is...). The seeds directly sowed earlier have come up and even the spuds have broken ground - and survived the frost - yahoo! I'm also itching to get some colorful annuals into pots.
Yeah, this thread is so good at drawing us out of the woodwork! We Vermonters sort of get "lost in the shuffle" on the bigger "much ado about New England" thread.
I couldn't believe how hot it got today...not to mention wet - funny time to have blankets marinating on the clothesline!
Hi there!
Sorry I've been absent from BYC this winter ...but it's great to crawl out from under a rock , and brace myself to clean the coop today.
It's fun to see new members here! We're from Clarendon, below Rutland.
Welcome, Pittsford! We're below Rutland, between Clarendon & Wallingford ("Wallyworld").
I've been unintentionally absent from BYC since about last Thanksgiving , but I think life is stirring here at our place once again!

Hi there! We live half an hr away from Ludlow, in N. Clarendon (the smallest size dot on the map)...we recently tried out a fun little Mexican eatery in Ludlow, well, AFTER we tried out the ice cream cone place!
Now with cold weather upon us, I'm still trying to get all our spuds dug...
