She has both eyes opened but still kind of slitty. When I gave her her Tums eggs she attacked them. Definitely feeling better. I want to wait until she lays a normal egg and can keep both eyes open normally, then I think I’ll put her back out with her friends on a relatively warm night.

She ate half her egg (one powdered Tums mixed in during cooking, sprinkled generously with meal worms). Hopefully she’ll finish it when she’s ready for another snack—if she eats it all, that’s 1000 mg Ca plus what’s in the egg/milk & the worms. I don’t use layer feed—I just give oyster shells...

Oh yeah... they wouldn’t. I ought to have realized. Okay... scrambled eggs it is. Thanks!

I have tums... Should I dissolve them in her water or crumble them up and offer them free choice?

That’s kinda what I figured. Most of them aren’t going to see tom or hen status, though. I just made another trip to the feed store... They’re personable, beautiful and funny, but it is time to top off the freezers.

Yes. I actually live in Jenny Gulch which I think refers to the old time gold miners’ donkeys. Jenny also refers to a young female turkey—young males are jakes (some people humorously call them tommies). I don’t know when a jenny officially becomes a hen though, nor a jake a tom. Maybe...

She has oyster shell. Is that good or you think she needs some other, perhaps more easily assimilated Ca source since she’s hurt? I’ll definitely check out her tummy... it had occurred to me that she might have been sickly already, making her vulnerable to being picked on. I had similar egg...

You're right, @Mybackyardpeepers I've done that before, but only once and I forgot. I'm old... what can I say? I did this morning what you suggest and was able to soak her eye open. There's a lot of stiff, crusty tissue around the eye that's going to have to soften up before she can open it...

Thanks, guys! I do have saline... Unfortunately though, I don’t have the weird thing any more. It was kind of repulsive but I still cannot believe I was so incurious as to throw it into the trash without cutting it open. When I read oldhenlikesdogs’ comment I tried to find it, but it’s gone. :th...

Day before yesterday I caught a jenny pecking at an unresisting BCM pullet. I snatched her up and relocated her to the garage, washed her ouchies and (covering her eyes with a cotton rag) sprayed her little head with Blukote. I made her some electrolytes and fed her around two ounces with a...
