I suggested Samoyed, but I'm not sure anymore. According to AKC website, they have "a strong urge to run away and roam," so I think they would need a fenced yard more than some other breeds you're considering.
Other spitz type breeds that I think are a good fit for you and not insanely hard to...
I wondered the same thing. You can do a breed comparison (up to 5 breeds at a time, so you could add corgi, etc as well). Looked very similar to me. I think the English was a bit bigger.
Yeah, I thought about both Samoyeds and Keeshonds being spitz, but wasn't sure if it was a deal breaker if all other attributes fit what you're looking for. They were both always on my own wishlist of breeds based on what I read about their personalities.
What about a springer spaniel?
I was simply addressing the size comment OP made about schnauzers. I have no idea about their personality, but she brought them up initially.
Admittedly, I've only known 2 shelties, and one was many years ago, but they were both nice, relatively quiet dogs. Didn't know the breed is generally yappy.
Not all schnauzers are small. You're probably thinking of miniature, but there's also standard (40ish pounds) and giant (65-90 pounds). Not sure about energy levels, but it might be worth looking into.
Also, what about a Sheltie? Samoyed? Keeshond? I'll keep thinking.
