I woke up this morning to my first homebred Barred Holland chicks. Five, and another one pipping now, with hopefully more to come.
Many thanks to mhollow for getting me started in this wonderful breed.
My apologies to everyone, especially mhollow, for not posting about the Barred Holland eggs I received from him. Life has been crazy.
I hatched 5 chicks, 3 roos and 2 hens.

My first go!
I have 15 eggs from mhollow in my incubator, eight days in now. I'm using a Brinsea Octagon 20 with automatic controls and the humidity pump, and the combination is doing a great job of keeping everything consistent. And yet, I am a nervous wreck.
The directions say after 7 days...
I'm getting eggs tomorrow and so excited. Thanks for the clarification mhollow. At least I'll know what to look for in that regard.
Any tips on incubating are welcome!
Thanks for everyone's input on incubators and brooders. I've found a local breeder of Black Australorps who's willing to sell me a couple of older hens that only lay eggs every other day or so but are good brooders, and some eggs to try them out on. My mother loves brown eggs so I already have a...

Thanks Ms. Ladyhawke.
I'm planning to order an incubator today and order eggs from Murray McMurray to make sure it's working properly before I use it for precious Barred Holland eggs. I never thought I could be so excited about raising chickens.
After much research, albeit by a novice, I've...
After 32 years of city life I'm headed back to our family farm in Tallahassee where I'm planning to start breeding rare breed chickens, goats and sheep. In the chicken department, my choice was an easy one. My mother kept Rhode Island Reds, but I've decided on Barred Hollands. To me, they're...

I'm very interested in starting a flock of Barred Hollands on our family farm in Florida. Would you be able to help me with a source for them.
Thanks so much,
Dawn
