Wire mesh is the way forward if you want to stop rodents... But will have to go to 6mm to stop mice. I have watched them step right through the 13mm mesh 🤦♀️

I honestly wouldn't. It's always a risk during bird flu season.
If you had an area in the garden that is closed off and able to be disinfected maybe you could try there.
