We have had no problems with CRD in our Breda's. Found them to be very hardy. Of course we've only had them for less than 2 years, but so far so good :) Keeping my fingers crossed! Always a chance for diseases if you have your chickens outside. Wild birds are carriers and always come in to get...

Wow, never thought of crows that way either. We did have crows nesting last few years just 30 feet from our house. Never liked it because we always had broodies we let hatch chicks. Was afraid they would snatch them up. This year they didn't come back, don't know why. Now kinda sorry. Realize...

Oh yes they been inside for 5 months already, just something they been doing from the last week. Have about 20 juviniles and 3 adults a 16x7 coop. Only the hens are doing it. So maybe they don't want to be in with the boys anymore?

Very sad day at the DutchConnectionFarm! Lost one of my juvenile Breda's this morning to a bird of prey. Just minutes before I opened the coops at 7:30! She was still warm and the bird didn't even get a chance to eat anything before I got there. Flew away when I walked up, looked like a falcon...

Chalk, are you exchanging the Blues for the Chuckoo's and Molted? Are they old enough now to tell how many pullets and Cockrell's you have? Just sold some of my extra's. Just hatched to many! But grateful, Now I can really only keep the best of the best and cull the rest. By fall should have a...

Yes first times moms we don't give special eggs either. Really never give broodies any eggs that I really want. Have put eggs in bator at same time as they sit and then stick them under their wings after the hatch. But even with my special chicks , don't do that. To many things can go wrong...

One of our black Breda's became broody a few days ago. So now all of the other girls have kinda stopped laying. She is sitting on 8 eggs and I guess they think that is enough and are taking a vacation! Last 2 days none have layed. It's weird , like they know not to disturb her, even though...
