If anyone is interested in BLR Wyandotte cock birds send a private mail. One two year old, the rest were hatched in May 2023 and one hatched September. Beautiful, well mannered birds that would make great flock leaders or Sunday roast. Spring mating season is coming and I need to cull.

Where are you located? I'm in Barton. I don't have Brahma but do have pullets I can part with. They'll be coming into lay this spring, likely will brood later spring.

How can you afford straw? I use first cut hay for nesting boxes and winter run ground cover. They love it. All the weeds and seed in first cut allows them to "forage" in these dark and frozen months. First cut is a bit over $5 a bale. As cheap as it gets.

Hey fellow Green Mountaineers, Thought I'd put a heads up here that I've a new to me breed of chicken this year. If any of you are in Northern Vermont and interested in Blue Laced Red Wyandotte let me know. In the next few months I'll be culling them down to a breeder quad and selling off the...

When you "free range" in rural Vermont areas you will lose a lot of chickens to predators. Raccoons alone will take birds nightly that are not in a locked coop at night. Weasel can get into any coop that has a one inch opening. For the most part we lose one a year to racoon, a bird that thinks...

There are a few breeders of poultry in Vermont. Many places to get backyard mixed flock chicks too. Orpington to me are the English attempt to make a Plymouth Rock. And Plymouth was one of the founding birds for Orpington. You can't go wrong with them, I'm more of a traditionalist. All the...

Single comb pullet/hens do fine in Vermont as long as you don't have the extreme combs like the Spanish and Italian breeds have, think Leghorn. Cockbirds have the large comb like a Mediterranean Class hen and what happens is you'll lose the tips of comb due to frost. I don't even believe it's...

Hello there Vermonters! I'm wondering if any of you breed heritage stock (non hatchery lines) of Barred Rocks? I've been looking about NH and VT for 10 months now with no luck. If anyone has a line on Barred Plymouth Rock breeders or even has a few hens they would be willing to sell drop me a...
